Christmas at St Helen's 2025.

Here are a few things to look out for as we run up to Christmas.

Next Saturday 29th November is the Victorian Christmas Market in St Helen's. 11.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.

In the last week of term the Primary School will have their annual Carol Concert. Keep an eye out for details.

On Friday the 19th December is the traditional 9 lessons and Carols by Candlelight at our neighbours St Leonard's in Farlington.

On Monday 22nd December at 6.30 p.m. is the 10th annual Village Christmas Celebration. With the Drummers and Andy Hunt's SHOC choir and keyboard and organ playing. Bring your Christmas jumpers and hats for fun and singing. There will be poems from Patrick and Nicky and other poems too. There will be a bar and mince pies to sustain you for an hour or so of singing.

On Christmas Eve at 11.00 a.m. we will be singing Our Carols in the Churchyard (well, usually in church, depending on weather. ) so bring your dogs out for a walk and join in with the traditional singing of Carols .
There will be mulled wine and mince pies to help keep up your singing strength. Andy leads us on his keyboard.

On Christmas morning at 10.00 a.m. there will be our Family Christmas Communion Service. You may get the chance to choose the Carols we sing and a chance for the children to show off their presents. It is a relaxed family service.

After all that, you will be able to get stuck into your Christmas Dinners!

A Festival Church
The Future of St Helen’s - a public meeting.

You may have seen in the Village News that we are looking at St Helen’s being a Festival Church for the future.

Unless we make changes, the church will almost certainly close in a few years.

The small number of people that attend and run the church are struggling to keep the building open.

This is not a matter of money, but a wish to protect a wonderful one thousand year old church, keep it open and being used often as a community asset.

Being a Festival Church is about having fewer, but more community- based services and more community activities, e.g. the recent Wedding Exhibition, the Victorian Christmas Market, Art and Craft activity courses, Art displays, Pet Services and still being open for meditation, prayer and reflection, as well as for the many visitors that come to the village.

We need your ideas and views for the future of St Helen’s. So please come to a meeting on Thursday 16th October in the Village Hall at 7.00 p.m. to help shape where we go from here.

If you are unable to come, but want to share your thoughts, please phone:
Jill and Neil Hodges 01347 878595, Michael Charlton Weedy 01347 878456 or Louise Chandler 07592 532619
