Epiphany.

Today we celebrate Epiphany, the time when the three wise men, the Magi, set out to follow a start across the dessert to find the new born Jesus in his manger.

Fr. Dom’s homily was insightful, he spoke about how we should follow our own stars back to Jesus, and reminded us that our hearts are for him.

Fr. Dom also blessed the epiphany chalk for members of the parish to use to write the blessings upon our thresholds.

It is as follows:

Today after Mass, St. Michael’s held their Christmas social. Mulled wine and mince pies were abundant and everyone had a great time, lots of conversations turning to what people’s plans are for Christmas.

Gaudete Sunday, Third Sunday of Advent.

Today’s Homily by Fr. Dom reflected on the work John the Baptist did as he prepared the world for the coming of Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

A timely reminder that it is still Advent and we should still be preparing ourselves for the Coming Of Christ.

The second Sunday Advent. The Christmas tree has been put up and the second Advent candle lit on the wreath.

Fr. Dominic’s Homily today was on the second candle, Love and how all the candles represent the light of Christ, coming to the world and bringing the light. We are reminded that the second and third Sundays of Advent centre on John the Baptist and if we want to prepare for the birth of Christ then we must listen to Johns message.

We hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Fr. Dom gave a great homily on the power of hope, which tied in nicely when lighting the first candle on the Advent Wreath, the candle of Hope.

Advent is a time to prepare for the coming of Christ, spiritual reflection, alms and prayer.

Blessed Sunday everyone 🙏🏻

Sunday Mass mix up! Today we had the pleasure of Mass being delivered by Fr. Tony from St. Joseph and St. Teresa’s in Wells. Fr. Dom was delivering Mass to the parish of Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Cheddar.

Fr. Tony’s homily was on the parable in Matthew 22:21 and how we compartmentalised religion and politics etc. using the current situation in the Holy land as an example. Most people are asking who bombed the hospital in Gaza when us as catholics, as Christians need to be asking the powers that be “why?” We should be more concerned with the preservation of life in the first instance as opposed to who has destroyed it.

“Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God”

For the past five weeks or so, Saint Michael’s has been blessed to have Father Thomas Atthill (centre) give Mass. Father Tom was ordained 54 years ago at Downside Abbey and is a regular face at the Parish as he steps in for Father Dom from time to time. Father Dom will return this Sunday to give Mass once again. God bless and thanks again Father Tom!

Well, Fr. Dom was only with us a week on returning from his time off before he was whisked away to another parish due to an emergency there. Nevertheless, today’s Mass was delivered by Fr. Phil Carroll RM Chaplain of Lympstone. Fr. Phil is the first Royal Navy Catholic Chaplain to have completed the gruelling Royal Marine Commando Course in 25 years! Earning his Green beret at the end of 2022.

Many thanks, Father Phil.

Have a blessed Sunday.
