Our 'second Saturday coffee morning' raises funds for a range of local charities, on the second Saturday in each month 10am-12noon. On September 12th we are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who provide specialist medical, emotional, and financial help for people affected by cancer. They fund professional roles like Macmillan nurses, run a confidential support line, and offer local community spaces and guidance to help patients cope with the impact of cancer.

This will also form the start of our Heritage Open Days, so there will be information displayed about the history and heritage of St. James' Church.

Please come along and support; cake-aways also available (why not bring a tub!).

A Fresh Look at the Parables

A six week of study and discussion, looking at these familiar stories that Jesus told. What can we learn from them? What was Jesus trying to teach his disciples - and us?

Starting on Thursday 10th September, 2 - 3.30 pm at Margaret Filer’s home in Jordanthorpe. Join us for this friendly time of sharing ideas and understanding. Please let Margaret know if you plan to come.

Dear all,

I know I write this to you in a time of uncertainty and confusion. For some of us there will be disappointment and a tiredness about the changes taking place at St James’ and possibly in how they are being handled too. I am aware that despite attempts to avoid disruption to the order of services this hasn’t been the case and I am sorry for that.

There is not much more to update you with at this stage than has previously been shared. Over the last month the PCC have met a couple of times to ask questions and discuss some of the practicalities, and the Archdeacon, David Gerrard, led a service and stayed behind afterwards to answer questions from the PCC.

The Reverend Canon Justin Dodd, Canon Missioner at the Cathedral will be joining a PCC meeting this month, and he will also be joining for some Sunday services over the months to come, leading worship and getting to know us as a church family.

If you do have any questions or concerns, please do chat to a PCC member or get in touch with me – each month in this letter I’ll aim to keep you up to date with where we are in the process.

Above all, please do be committing each other, our parish and all involved to the Lord in prayer. I often find myself going back to John 10 to help me in this:

‘[Jesus said,] “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.”’ (John 10:14-15)

In the midst of everything we can look to Jesus and know that he knows us, in all our struggles and our pain and we can know him as the only one who will never let us down.

With best wishes,
Ben
