St Mary’s Welldressing

The church will be open each day from Wednesday 2nd to Saturday 5th September, 10.30am - 4pm, for preparation of the well dressing. Everyone is invited to come along and do some petaling. It is taking place in the Lady Chapel at the east end of the church. On Saturday 5th we won’t be holding a coffee morning as refreshments are being served on Sunday 6th in the afternoon, at the Horticultural Show instead.

The well dressing will be dedicated at the 10.30am Eucharist Service on Sunday, 6th September. The theme for this year is Harvest.

The Horticultural Show will be held on Sunday, 6th September 2.00 - 5.00pm. There will be exhibits for fruit, vegetables, flowers, preserves and baking. Entries are welcome from people who live, work, visit, volunteer or have a connection with Walkley. There are 5 main ‘Categories’ and a Junior section, which are detailed in the entry form (the link is in the Walkley Horticultural Show post below).

Refreshments will be on sale to support the church and there will also be stalls and activities for all ages. All profits go to S6 Food Bank.

The next Friends of Walkley Cemetery work session will take place on Saturday, August 8th, between 10am and 2pm. During the works day the Friends will once again be taking part in a nationwide survey, to assess the health of butterfly populations in the face of climate change and other environmental threats. They have set aside a 15 minute period (from about 11:30am) to observe and count butterfly species. If you would like to go along to take part in this survey you would be very welcome! Accompanied children also welcome.
