We don't have a service at Underbank on Sunday 24th May, but on the following Sunday, 31st May, we join our friends at Fulwood Old Chapel for a joint service. Any members requiring a lift please get in touch with Joy Parker or send a message on here.

On Sunday 17th May our congregation joined friends from chapels in the Sheffield District for the annual District Service. This was led by the General Assembly's joint Presidents, Jean and Alex Bradley.
Banners were displayed in the chapel grounds after the service, with our Congregational Committee Chairperson Karen Allison standing in for the missing Underbank one.
White rose trees were placed at the memorials or on the graves, of Unitarian Ministers buried at Great Hucklow.
It was a lovely occasion with an opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Our thanks to the members of Great Hucklow chapel for the refreshments - what a splendid variety of delicious cakes! Thank you.

A reminder that there is no service at Underbank this Sunday, 17th May. Instead we will head over to Derbyshire for the Sheffield District Service at the Old Unitarian Chapel, Great Hucklow. The service is at 2.00pm.
All the chapels of the District have been invited to display and parade their banners at the service. At Underbank, we have a beautiful hanging, made by members of the congregation for the 350th anniversary of the chapel - but we don't have a banner! We hope to rectify this by designing and creating one in the near future.
Our Sunday school banner, which used to be paraded around the village on Whit Monday for the Whit Walks and hymn singing, is too big and heavy to be transported. Instead we look forward to creating something new which will reflect our history and show Underbank in the 21st century. Watch this space!

Our service on Sunday 3rd May will be in the Schoolroom at 11.00. Our theme this week will be 'May Day' - this is a change from the previously published service - 'An Introduction to Islam by Ameena Blake, Muslim Chaplain, University of Sheffield and a recap of Unitarianism by Joy Parker' – this service will be rescheduled for later in the year.

The service will include looking at links between Christian and pagan traditions, the relevance of May Day to workers and worker's rights and the ancient traditions of May Queens and maypoles.
The service will be led by Viv Ellison and Joy Parker with contributions from members of the congregation.
Coffee and conversation will follow the service as usual. Everyone is very welcome to join us for a celebration of May.

We are not always able to hold Sunday services, but Chapel life continues!

Recently we celebrated the marriage of Ellie Crownshaw, former Brownie leader for the pack who meet in our Schoolroom, and husband Ben Burrell on Tuesday 31st March. Both Ellie and Ben are teachers and took advantage of the school Easter holidays for their wedding.
It was a unique and personalised ceremony with a young ring-bearer wearing a suit and sunglasses bringing the rings to the front in a briefcase to the James Bond theme music. Everyone sang the Ben E. King song 'Stand by Me' and celebrated outside chapel with - not a glass of bubbly - but an 'Our Cow Molly' ice cream from the local farm! What a wonderful and memorable occasion it was. It was performed by local celebrant, Kate Silvester.
Congratulations to you both, we all wish you a very happy future together.

Also, on Sunday 19th April, the Blessing of Romy Theodore Barratt Collingwood was held in chapel after the service. Romy has two older siblings who were also blessed at Underbank so the family tradition continues. The ceremony was performed by our own celebrant Kerrie Marsh.
May your life be happy and blessed Romy.

Both days were gloriously sunny fortunately!
