Sarah's Prayer for Tuesday June 28th.
On June 28th 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by Princip precipitating the start of WW1 in which so many, many lost their lives fighting each other across the world. On June 28th 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed ending the hostilities of WW1.It did not address the irreconcilable differences between the protagonists which then led to the start of WW2
On the night of 14th November, 1940, Coventry and its Cathedral endured a relentless bombing campaign. Overnight ,much of central Coventry, hundreds of its people and its Cathedral were left in ruins. Only the outer shell of the walls and the tower remained standing.
In the days that followed, two enduring symbols emerged from the rubble: two charred roof-beams which had fallen in the shape of a cross were bound and placed at the site of the ruined altar, and three medieval roof nails were also formed into a cross, which became the original Cross of Nails (now located at the High Altar in the new Cathedral).
Shortly after, the words ‘Father Forgive’ – deliberately neutral in content – were inscribed on the wall of the ruined chancel, and Provost Dick Howard made a commitment to not seek revenge, but to strive for forgiveness and reconciliation with those responsible.
Today we continue to witness the ongoing offensive of war between nations in Europe again, between Ukraine and Russia in which many, many again are losing their lives. We pray for a reconciliation between these nations leading to the end of hostilities.

Linda's prayer for Friday 24th June
Fantasy, imagination and a little bit of pixie dust come together today in honour of International Fairy Day. These tiny supernatural creatures have captivated myth and legend for generations. Today the wee folk’s myths are perpetuated throughout animated stories, miniature garden displays and children’s books. In nearly every culture there is some reference to a spirit or spritely creature who performs good or evil deeds depending on its nature.
Whatever supernatural beings we put store in, it all comes down to faith and often blind faith at that, believing in something that is neither seen nor tangible.
John’s gospel relates the doubt that Thomas had about Christ’s resurrection.

Penny’s Prayer Monday May 30th.
A prayer for transparency and honesty in Public Life.
As we give thanks for the very many who serve our nation with transparency, honesty and integrity in their dealings, we pray that they may continue to be strengthened in their work for the common good. May we support them and in our own dealing with one another act fairly and with openness.
We pray that our nation may walk the path of care for the most vulnerable, welcome for the stranger and honesty in all our dealings. We pray that any moves to remove the codes that govern our rights and our national way of life may be resisted.

Peter's Thursday Thought. June 9th.
The Dove.
Today we remember St Columba - also known as Columcille (meaning ‘The Dove’) who lived from 7 December 521 to 9 June 597). He was born and studied in Christian Ireland and in 593 he set out, with 12 companions, in a coracle to see where the winds of the Spirit would take him. Eventually he landed on the small island of Iona, just off the coast of what is now Scotland. Here he founded a monastic community which became a base for his mission to Scotland (Pictland). It was from Iona that St Aidan came to Northumberland, bringing the Christian gospel to the local Saxon population. Our prayer today comes from the pen of Columba.
