We pray this week for the Methodist Conference, the governing body of the Methodist Church. Meeting once a year, it provides a forum for prayerful reflection and decision-making on issues that shape the life of the Church, as well as matters that impact the wider community, the nation, and the world. We pray for all those attending and participating in various ways, and we pray for the discussions and decisions that will be made.
All public sessions of the 2026 Methodist Conference will be live-streamed from the Conference Hall and can be viewed on this page.
All sessions will be available to watch again, business sessions being available only until 2 August 2026.

ECLIPSE PARTY AT EMMANUEL
On Wednesday 12th August 2026 the UK will see a partial solar eclipse, when around 90% of the Sun will be covered by the moon.
You will have to wait until 2090 for the next total solar eclipse in the UK.
So why not come along to Emmanuel’s Eclipse Party from 5.30pm until 8pm to celebrate with us – there will be free hotdogs, drinks, cake & activities for all ages!

Pray with us......

Everyday God, this week we remember the birth of John Wesley.
He could hardly have imagined that the disciplined way he sought to follow Jesus would become the name of a movement that has endured for generations. What began as mockery became a calling, what others saw as rigid became a pathway to grace.
For that heritage, we give you thanks.
As we continue the story today, help us to embrace lives shaped by prayer, by study, by acts of justice and mercy, and by love for our neighbours. Keep us rooted in the practices that draw us closer to you, not as empty routines but as habits that transform us and the world around us.
When we are tempted to chase relevance by becoming more like everyone else, remind us that the earliest Methodists were known because they were different. Give us the confidence to offer an alternative way of living: one that tells stories of hope instead of fear, forgiveness instead of resentment, generosity instead of scarcity, and peace instead of division.
May we never be ashamed of our inheritance or apologetic about the values of your kingdom. Instead, help us to embody them with humility and joy.
For who would not long to belong to a community where people are welcomed rather than judged, where gifts are recognised and nurtured, where difference is celebrated, where inclusion is lived, where the lonely find friendship and the weary find rest?
Make us that kind of people.
Not perfect people, but people whose lives point beyond ourselves to your transforming love.
And when others look at us, may they see not simply Methodists, but followers of Jesus, walking together in faith, hope and love.

There will be a solar eclipse across the UK on Wednesday 12 August, the last before 2090. Methodist churches are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to host eclipse parties – opportunities to invite local communities to come together for a once in a lifetime shared meaningful experience and the district is offering grants of up to £500 to help create these parties.

Our first Art of Welcome grant has been awarded to Manor Church and Community Project . This ecumenical charity and expression of church on the Manor estate in Sheffield will be working with the diverse groups of people who attend their regular groups, to create a mosaic for the outside of their Temple Park Centre and an art exhibition. Art making workshops will be tailored to cater for a range of needs such as structured & unstructured, multi-generational and age specific.

Manor Church and Community Project in Sheffield are the first church to award a £500 grant through The Art of Welcome project.
