🙏 A prayer for Courage to Join God's Song

God,
whose life dances in and beyond all creation,
whose song resounds throughout the universe and beyond,
you call us to add our voices to your harmony
and long all voices to be part of your song of infinite grace.
May we have the courage to raise our voices to join your song
and the sensitivity to enable all voices to be heard.
May we know and rest in the silence that births new melodies.

May all hearts echo with the resonance of your love.
May our voices be raised in shouts of protest,
in howling cries of grief and in gentle sounds of comfort.
May we join the yearning choir in the reality of deep lament
that longs for change and brings healing into being.
Amen.

Members from six churches in the Rotherham and Dearne Valley Methodist Circuit have come together to knit a series of gospel scenes designed to encourage reflection, conversation and community engagement as they tour local church buildings.

Thirteen scenes have been created so far telling the story of Jesus from his birth through to post-resurrection encounters. Each display is accompanied by captions to encourage people to pause and reflect.

The scene's are currently on display at Broom Methodist Church and have been made possible by a New Beginnings Grant from the district.

There will be a solar eclipse across the UK on Wednesday 12 August, the last before 2090. Methodist churches are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to host eclipse parties – opportunities to invite local communities to come together for a once in a lifetime shared meaningful experience, during which we can gently and appropriately share something of the good news of Jesus. Plus the district is offering grants to churches to help fund the parties.
The Methodist Church are hosting a webinar on Thursday 28 May, 7.00pm to share more about the project's background and explore the creative possibilities of eclipse viewing events with other participants.

🙏 A Prayer for courage to clear in order to grow from District Chair, Vicky Atkins

Everyday God,
we confess that we often hold on to things for longer than we need to.

We keep objects because they hold memories,
traditions because they remind us of precious times gone by,
structures because they once served us well,
and patterns because they feel familiar and safe.

Sometimes we clutter our cupboards, our diaries, our churches,
and even our hearts,
with things that were once necessary
but are no longer life-giving.

Give us wisdom to know what is precious and worth carrying forward,
and courage to let go of what has simply accumulated over time.

Teach us that laying things down is not always failure,
and endings are not always loss.
Help us to release things gently, thankfully, honestly,
without bitterness or fear.

Where we have burdened others with unfinished business,
unnecessary complexity,
or responsibilities nobody can sustain,
forgive us.

And where we are afraid to change
because we confuse preservation with faithfulness,
give us grace to trust that your Spirit is still creating something new.

May the legacy we leave behind be not simply buildings, paperwork, possessions, or committees,
but love, courage, kindness, justice, hospitality, and hope.

Help us to clear space for those who come after us, so, they inherit possibilities rather than exhaustion.

And in all things, teach us to travel more lightly with you.
Amen.
