Reflecting on the past year at Dormansland Baptist Church, Surrey, we see faithfulness. Cups of tea served, chairs set out, prayers prayed, songs sung and time given generously. And in all of it, we see God quietly at work, writes minister Jac Parson

From Yorkshire to Ethiopia
In March, Ashenafi Mekuria (Pastor of Grace Gospel Church, Leeds) and Peter Dunn (Biglife Europe & YBA Discipleship Enabler) travelled to Ethiopia to serve the Ethiopian Baptist Convention. Peter and Graham Ensor had met Pastor Yonas, the General Secretary of the convention, nearly two years ago at the Baptist World Alliance meetings in Norway, and he had expressed an interest in learning more about Disciple Making Movement (DMM) approaches. Angharad & Llyr’s fostering story journey began when Angharad was just a little girl, growing up in a busy house and knowing she wanted to help others. Fast forward to 2020, and Angharad, her husband and birth children welcomed a young girl in, their first foster child.

"We're now fostering a little boy who waited some time to be matched with a suitable foster family due to his varied needs. Having him with us has cemented our practice of fostering as a family, the boys adore him, and he is very much a part of the family.

"Our Bala peer-to-peer support group has been a lifeline throughout our journey. In both the good and challenging times, we are there for each other, helping each other flourish as we care for and love the children placed with us."

Why not book your place now? The day will be an opportunity to learn from the rich diversity within our churches, ordinary people sharing honest stories, not as experts, just churches encouraging one another. We will hear how they are becoming more welcoming, helping people feel more valued and an integral part of God’s family, making room for and journeying more intentionally with people from diverse backgrounds. Good news! "English Skills - My Health" ESOL sessions with Sheffield English Language Support - SAVTE are returning to Darnall Primary Care Centre on Wednesday 6th May, 12.30-2.30pm. The previous sessions were extremely well received, with all attendees telling us how much they learned from coming along and how much more confident they felt. One of many positive comments from a participant was:
“Before, I was confused, but now I feel confident to do things in my life. I learned very important things in this course, like how to complete a medical form, talk to 111 service. I learned to speak with the GP confidently.”

Assessment and enrolment for these sessions is on Wednesday 29th April 12.30-2.30 at Darnall Primary Care Centre. Please book your place at the assessment session here:
