St Paul’s Community Pantry: A Beacon of Hope

St Paul’s Community Pantry stands as a vital hub of hope within our community, where every member of our team works tirelessly to sustain and protect this service for those who rely on it. In recent months, however, we have faced real challenges; sourcing surplus food has become increasingly difficult, requiring us to work harder than ever to keep our shelves stocked. To help bridge this gap, we currently hold three separate memberships with FareShare. One of these memberships was generously donated in memory of a loved one and is due to expire soon. When this support ends, we will need to source supplies further up the supply chain — a change that brings new challenges and costs for us to manage.

Yet our work extends far beyond simply providing food parcels to individuals and families. We are proud to host essential wrap-around support right here on site, including a dedicated Cost of Living worker, the Pathways employment service, a Family Forum, connections to local Family Hubs, and access to mental health professionals. We are also a recognised part of local health care: GPs across the area now socially prescribe patients to St Paul’s, particularly to join us for our warm and welcoming community lunch.

Our support reaches further still into the wider community. We deliver food parcels directly to those who cannot easily access us, and we provide special Baskets of Hope for students in local schools who are less well-off. During school holidays, we ensure no child goes hungry by distributing lunch packs, and we offer free breakfast provision to support families every day.

Above all, we are a safe space. We are here to listen, to support, and to treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve. For so many people walking through difficult times, St Paul’s Community Pantry is more than just a service — it is a steady, shining beacon of hope.

We are working harder than ever to support everyone facing food poverty — but supermarket surplus has dropped sharply, making it much harder to keep up with demand. To keep providing enough good‑quality food, we rely on FareShare memberships — we currently have three, but their funding is ending soon. We urgently need to secure four memberships to keep going as we do now.

Without your help, we may not be able to continue supporting our community in the same way. Please donate what you can, or share this appeal — every bit helps us keep food on tables for those who need it most.

Community Pantry is more than a food resource; it is a vital lifeline for our neighborhood. We provide a safe space supported by a qualified listener and chaplaincy, ensuring emotional and spiritual care for all.

Our impact is intergenerational. We support young people through their Duke of Edinburgh awards, provide cost-of-living assistance via our worker Alex Marshall, and offer essential family support through our Parent Hub and Forum.

We are a diverse community of volunteers and users dedicated to welcoming everyone, combating loneliness, and supporting those with mental health challenges. We invite you to see firsthand how our pantry serves as a beacon of hope .
Pantry times are 9.30 am Wednesdays and 10 am Fridays with a free community lunch .

We are so proud to announce that tomorrow marks the 3rd anniversary of St Paul’s Community Pantry. As we reach this milestone, we want to share the story of how we have grown and the vital partnership that makes our work possible.

Our story is rooted in a simple but powerful mission: using food surplus to feed people who need secure access to food for themselves and their families. We believe that in a world where so much food goes to waste, no one in our neighborhood should go hungry. Over the last three years, we have worked to bridge that gap, providing a dignified and welcoming space where everyone is welcome.

However, we truly couldn’t do this without FareShare, Neighbourly and Caboodle , Their support has been the backbone of our operations. By providing us with high-quality surplus food from across the supply chain, Being members of FareShare enables us to stock our shelves with fresh, nutritious items that would otherwise have gone to waste. This partnership allows us to provide a consistent lifeline to local families, ensuring they have the food security they deserve.

As we celebrate three years of service, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the team at FareShare, our dedicated volunteers, and every member of this community who has supported us. Together, we are turning environmental waste into social good and making sure that good food reaches the people who need it most.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to many more years of serving St Paul’s together.
We will have finger food and cake tomorrow at our community lunch .

Warm regards,Tina , Jay , Millie and all

You are all invited to join us this mothering Sunday. In our service there will be space to give thanks for those who care for us, find space to grieve people we miss and pray for those who give up so much to look after others. We will also think about how God is like a mother to us.

Whatever emotions you may be feeling this mothers day you are welcome with us. Refreshments will be served after the service.
