When someone we love is suffering, we'll do anything to try and help them and the grief we feel at seeing someone else hurt is deep.

This Sunday, Jesus tells his disciples that he will undergo great suffering in Jerusalem - that he is destined to be killed. Peter couldn't bear the thought and told Jesus that he would never let that happen.

But Jesus knew that to fulfil all that he was on the earth to do, suffering was necessary. Peter didn't understand, but Jesus knew that his death would conquer death for all time and his victory over death would give the whole world hope for evermore.

A warm congratulations to The Archer Project, who have been awarded over £500,000 by the government in recognition of the incredible work they do in the heart of the city, supporting people who are homeless or sleeping rough.

At Sheffield Cathedral, we share our building with them and see the expertise and kindness they bring to everything they do each day. We are delighted that they have been awarded this money to continue and develop their life-changing work.

Sheffield Cathedral is recruiting a Community Organiser, a new role within the Cathedral Resourcing Project.

Working in the Citizens UK tradition of broad-based community organising, the Community Organiser will help embed organising across the Cathedral, its parish partnerships and its civic relationships, contributing to the co-creation of Sheffield Citizens Alliance.

This post is open to people of all faiths and of none. There is no requirement to be a practising Christian, but the postholder will need to work sympathetically within the public mission and inclusive Christian values of Sheffield Cathedral.
