What a wonderful day we had yesterday at St Matthew's Church, Sheffield celebrating Parish Nursing Sunday!

It brought together our church community, friends and distinguished civic guests to recognise the invaluable work of St Matthew's Parish Nursing Project and the difference it makes in people's lives. A massive thank to everyone who joined us, supported us and continues to make this ministry possible.

We were delighted to welcome Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Master & Mistress Cutler and the Leader of the Council.

And, of course, no celebration would be complete without food! Our now legendary bring-and-share feast was a success. A huge thank you to everyone who brought something along and helped make the day so special.

At the heart of Parish Nursing is a simple but powerful message: everyone deserves to be seen, heard and cared for.

Louise and Michaela recently joined the Parish Nursing Ministries UK National Symposium at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, a prayerful day filled with inspiring stories and shared experiences from Parish Nurses across the UK.

It was a beautiful reminder that, while every community is different, our calling remains the same: to listen, to be present and to walk alongside people with compassion and care.

They return to our own Parish Nursing ministry encouraged, refreshed and grateful for the privilege of serving our community.

🎗️ World Su***de Prevention Week– Start the Conversation. Today marks the final day of World Su***de Prevention Week awareness campaign, and it’s a good moment to remember just how important it is to talk, listen and be there for one another.

Sometimes, simply asking “Are you OK?” and giving someone the time and space to talk can make a real difference. We don’t always need the right words or the answers... Sometimes, being willing to listen is enough. 💚

We also want to highlight the wonderful work of Samaritans Their volunteers are there, day and night, to listen to anyone who is struggling, feels overwhelmed or simply needs someone to talk to. You don’t have to be at a crisis point to contact them, and you don’t have to have the words figured out

40 YEARS! Today, we came together at St Matthew's Church, Sheffield to celebrate a milestone: 40 years of nursing for our Lead Parish Nurse, Louise!

Mass was celebrated by Fr Alun Price as we gave thanks for Louise’s decades of compassionate care, guidance, and faithful service to our community.

The nursing journey continues in the family, as Louise’s daughter, Beth, begins her nurse training at Sheffield Hallam University on Monday, 14th September. Please join us in keeping both Louise and Beth in your prayers as one celebrates an amazing legacy and the other takes her first steps into this wonderful vocation! 🩺❤️

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS! Week! 7th–13th September Do you know your blood pressure numbers? Come and visit our Parish Nursing stall at The Moor Market Sheffield this week and have your blood pressure checked with us! 🩺

This week is Know Your Numbers! Week, the UK’s biggest blood pressure awareness campaign and it’s a great reminder to take a few minutes to look after your heart and circulation.

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, so you may not know there’s a problem unless you have it checked. Knowing your numbers means you can take action if they’re higher than they should be.

Parish Nurses Quiet Day... We retreat so we can return!

Today we gathered at the Shrewsbury Hospital Almshouse for a special Parish Nurses Quiet Day, a precious opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life, to pray, reflect, share, and simply enjoy being together.

On the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of St Cuthbert, we were reminded of the witness of a saint whose life was marked by prayer, compassion and service to others. A very fitting day for our Parish Nursing team as we continue our own ministry of care and service within our community. 🙏

What a beautiful Sunday at St Matthew's Church, Sheffield

The day included Mass, a joyful procession through Sheffield City Centre with the image of Our Lady of Walsingham, and a wonderful community BBQ afterwards.

It was especially lovely to see Louise, our Parish Lead Nurse, here with Canon Naylor, Vicar of St Matt's, sharing in this special day and the fellowship of our community. 💚

The image of Our Lady of Walsingham will now continue its journey to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Gweru, Zimbabwe, carrying with it our prayers and love.
