On 1st Sept we entered the new Season of Creation and at Café Church this week the Wilf’s Place congregation marked the Feast of Creation in Christ. The lectionary readings gave us 4️⃣ contrasting biblical 📖 perspectives on creation: the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis; psalm 148 where all of creation itself praises God; St Paul’s famous speech at the Areopagus in Athens; and the dramatic opening verses of John’s Gospel. Then an open discussion ensued that touched on: mystery, the environment, biblical truth vs mythological story, Jesus Christ as creator as well as redeemer, etc. It’s fair to say that there were as many different points of view as there were people in the room 😉 but we all gave thanks 🙏 that we are part of the Holy Trinity’s ongoing creation narrative and have the gift 💝 of life.

Yeah Tim Hatton joined the rest of the Borders Area Council at St Ebba’s in Eyemouth. It was good to worship together and discuss important matters.

We had a great Borders' Area Council yesterday- our annual trip to St Ebba's in Eyemouth for a meeting that finishes with fish suppers or whatever is your preferred fried item. The highlight of the Area Council year! Grace, Fee, Tim and Lesley also with us but not in pic.

Today all the churches in Hawick & District came together for the Annual Summer Service at Volunteer Park. A dozen from St Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church Hawick and Wilf’s Place took part, out of just under 200 worshippers overall, including a good contingent from the Whitchester Christian Centre. Our very own Stephen Jones read the Old Testament reading 📖

At church this week the Wilf’s Place congregation had an emotional time. The readings took us to Mount Horeb, where Moses ‘turned aside’ and God called to him out of a burning 🔥 bush. We wondered how God can still speak to us today in the most unexpected places? In the gospel reading from Matthew, Jesus told us each to “take up their cross and follow me”, an uncompromising 💯% commitment. Really? We weren’t sure. Thankfully, in the third reading, good ol’ St Paul provided us with some teaching on how to follow Jesus. In Romans 12:9-21 we heard the Marks of a True Christian that, though challenging, were practical and objective.
