“I vow to sow the seeds of our Holy Faith where no other teacher has been before.” - Birinus (600-650), Bishop of Dorchester and Apostle of Wessex

Birinus was a Benedictine monk, sent by Pope Honorius I as a missionary to the Kingdom of Wessex, in England. Through Birinus’ preaching, the kingdom converted to Christianity and many churches were planted.

Almighty and everlasting God, you called your servant Birinus to preach the Gospel to the people of Wessex: Raise up in this and every land evangelists and heralds of your kingdom, that your Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
