Yesterday’s worship focused on the message ‘Go With God’ and we were reminded of the importance of trusting God and following Him even when we cannot see exactly what lies ahead.

The service was aptly followed by the first of our monthly ‘Church Chats’, where we were invited to share our thoughts about what St Andrew’s means to us, what we think it means to others, and what we want it to be in the future.

There were many common themes, highlighting the things we do well - including offering a warm welcome, acceptance, providing support, being non-judgemental, promoting inclusivity, instilling a sense of belonging and being a safe space for all.

In discussions about our vision for the future, the overarching message was that we want St Andrew’s to be a place where people in our local and wider community can come to meet God, develop their faith and share in our Christian journey. We want to be a beacon of light for Scarborough, in what is sometimes a dark world.

This initial Church Chat was a great starting point for us to begin to draw together all of our thoughts, feelings and ideas for moving forward with God at our side. We put our trust in Him and know that He will guide us in our mission to share His word with the world.

This morning, in Faith Explorers, we talked about trusting God to help us find a path through life, even when the way ahead seems difficult and full of dangers.

We listened to the story of Moses parting the Red Sea to help the Israelites escape from Egypt. Then we had a go at parting the Red Sea for ourselves. We sprinkled red glitter on top of a tub of water (yes, I know the sea wasn’t really red) and we used our finger to try and create a path through the glitter. When it didn’t work, we dipped our finger in washing up liquid and drew a line through the glitter - and it miraculously split the Red Sea down the middle, creating a path for the Israelites to travel to their freedom. We called our washing up liquid “Moses”.

We also completed a nice little cutting and colouring activity to help us remember the story at home. I think we are all going to sparkle for the rest of the term now ✨

As part of our ‘Vision for Mission and Ministry’ at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Scarborough, we are beginning a series of ‘Church Chats’ to involve all members and friends in shaping the future of our church.

These discussions are vital for the development of our mission and journey so we urge everyone to contribute fully to the discussions.

‘Church Chat’ will take place immediately after the service, over a cup of coffee and a biscuit, and will last no longer than 30 minutes. Every voice counts and we need to know your thoughts so that we can get it right moving forwards.

Yesterday evening, Mark and Ali took part in a webinar presented by the URC’s Children and Youth and Safeguarding Teams, entitled “Empowering Communities Through Intergenerational Working and Building Bridges Across Generations”

During the session, there were some excellent discussions around a number of topics, including:

• Fostering and maintaining healthy and respectful relationships across the generations.
• Recognising and understanding the impact of unconscious bias and valuing the importance of clearly defined roles within intergenerational settings.
• Considering how we create welcoming and inclusive environments within our church and ensuring that our spaces serve all generations safely and effectively.
• Exploring Generational Theory and gaining an insight into how it can be applied to enhance understanding and cooperation among different age groups.

At St Andrew’s we are committed to growing our church and we are working prayerfully to develop our vision for mission and ministry to meet the needs of our local and wider community.

Today sees the start of a brand new school year. We hold in our prayers all of our children and young people, their parents, teachers, school staff and other agencies as they return to school and college. Let this be a year of enrichment, fulfilment and success.

Yesterday afternoon saw the first of our Autumn Saturday Social Afternoons, which take place from 2-4pm on the first Saturday of each month.

We have a different event each month, including board games, beetle drives, quizzes and bingo!

Our Messy Church session was absolutely brilliant today, and we were delighted to welcome over 50 people to our event!! It was certainly a busy couple of hours and everyone got stuck in to the crafts, food and activities! Thanks to everyone who came along, please share your photos with us and keep an eye out for our October Half Term date!!

Come along to Messy Church tomorrow and enjoy lots of activities centred around The Parable of The Two Builders. Construction resources, colouring, creative activities, puzzles, pebble painting, LEGO, build a biscuit house and our treasure hunt - there’s something for everyone! We open at 10.30 and close at 12.30 after our lunch of hot dogs and ice cream. Hope to see you there!!

Today is the FINAL day of our brilliant Art Exhibition. We’ve loved welcoming so many people through our doors to view the beautiful works of local artist Peter Swidrak and we extend our thanks to him for sharing his talents with us. There’s still time to pop along and enter the treasure hunt to be in with a chance of winning £50!

Our weekly coffee morning is also on today so come along and enjoy a nice cup of Fairtrade coffee and a slice of homemade cake!
