Update on the Flood Disaster of August 26

Following the devastating mudslide, further flooding is feared. On the Nepalese side, a lake has formed at the mouth of a river, with an estimated two million cubic metres of water already accumulated. The built up stone dam is at serious risk of collapsing.

Rescue teams are also preparing for further rainfall in the coming days. Heavy rain could worsen the current situation and make rescue and relief efforts even more difficult.

The death toll from the flash floods in Nepal and China has now risen to at least 472, while more than 1,400 people are still missing, including numerous tourists and pilgrims.

A Special Visit from Lama Rinchen Palmo

‘Awakening from the Dream of Samsara’

Saturday and Sunday 17 & 18 October 2026, 2pm to 5pm with tea break.

We are delighted to welcome Lama Rinchen Palmo to Samye Dzong Scarborough.

Lama Rinchen will guide us through the Four Ways of Changing the Mind, with meditation, teachings and time for questions.

These contemplations help us to cultivate gratitude for this precious life, understand impermanence, develop confidence in karma, and discover deeper and more lasting happiness and freedom.

This will be a special opportunity to spend a weekend exploring these fundamental Buddhist contemplations with a highly experienced Lama.

About Lama Rinchen Palmo

Of French descent, Lama Rinchen Palmo is a highly experienced meditation teacher who has spent at least 20 years in strict meditation retreat. She previously assisted with the supervision of the long retreats on Holy Isle in Scotland.

Lama Rinchen is one of the four Western Lamas appointed by Akong Tulku Rinpoche and is much loved for her compassionate, warm and down-to-earth style of teaching.

She is the spiritual director of Samye Dzong Brussels and its associated retreat centre at Beaumont on the Belgian border.

Her many years of experience and approachable teaching style make her a wonderful guide for both newer and more experienced practitioners.

This promises to be a very special weekend of teachings, meditation and reflection.
