Keeping local sport thriving.

This Volunteers’ Week, we're recognising the volunteers who help keep Saxilby Cricket Club running both on and off the pitch.

Alice volunteers as the club's Treasurer and Secretary and is part of the committee that works behind the scenes to support the club throughout the year.

Alice explains:

"There's a lot of behind the scenes action to keep the club running smoothly! As a committee we have to coordinate memberships, fundraising, legal and compliance, all whilst making sure everyone in the club has a good time too."

While players take to the field each week, volunteers help make it all possible by giving their time, skills and dedication to the club.

The club is always keen to welcome new volunteers and players.

Alice added:

"The club could always do with extra pairs of hands and new players too! So if you're interested in finding out more please get in touch through our page."

Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time to help local sport flourish in our community.

Creating memorable experiences for local children.

This Volunteers’ Week, we're celebrating the dedicated volunteers behind the Saxilby Church of England Primary School PTA.

Sarah, the current volunteer Chair, explains:

"The job of the PTA is to host fun events for the children of the school and their families to enrich their school experience.

We organise events such as discos, Christmas and Summer Fayres, Christmas shopping experiences and, last year, we even brought a circus to the school.

Any profits made from these events go straight back into the school to help fund opportunities and equipment that would not otherwise be possible."

Over the years, PTA volunteers have helped provide a wide range of experiences for pupils, including wildlife VR sessions, World Book Day T-shirt making, badge making for the Lincolnshire Show, inflatables, silent discos and much more.

Most recently, the PTA made a significant contribution towards the school's new wooden adventure play equipment, helping to create a lasting benefit for current and future pupils.

Sarah added:

"We are a small, friendly group of parents who are all trying to bring some extra joy for the children and families at Saxilby School. We are always open to new members, with no commitment to attend every event or meeting."

A huge thank you to all PTA volunteers, past and present, for the time, energy and enthusiasm they give to support local children and families.

If you would like to find out more or get involved, please contact the PTA through their page or by email at [email protected].

A warm welcome, a helping hand and a love of books.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the volunteers at Saxilby Library and the important role they play in our community.

Volunteer Alex shared what volunteering at the library means to him:

“I’m Alex and I’m one of the volunteers at Saxilby Library. Together, we operate the library four days a week in groups of two or three, and are there to help people with everything from borrowing books to printing.

Much of our time is spent keeping the shelves tidy and processing people’s reservations, but there’s always time to chat to visitors and make them feel welcome.

Alongside working in the library once or twice a week during my university holidays, I’m responsible for designing our bus and rail timetables, making posters and organising our storytime sessions. Other volunteers run drop-in IT support sessions and co-ordinate school visits.

Volunteering at the library can be an incredibly varied role – but we’d like to think that it’s perfect for anyone with a love of books and a willingness to help other people.”

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering, why not pop into the library next time you’re passing by?

Thank you to all the volunteers who help keep the library running for our community.
