Next Stage Housing…

His New Home Is A Blessing!

For quite a while J has been volunteering at Nourish Food Club and has always been willing to help out when he can.
He asked Cath at Next Stage Housing for help in finding a place of his own as he wants to work full time and make an independent life for himself. For several months we have looked at different options and applied for places with no success. Often the places available were more than he could afford.
An unexpected call from another charity led to the opportunity to apply for a flat with a charitable housing association. J signed for the place a couple of weeks ago and we are busy sourcing furniture and household items so that he can move in.
As J has given of his time and effort so joyfully it is good to see him being blessed in return with a place to call home.

Does prison Chaplaincy Have Value…?

ALPHA at HMP Buckley Hall

We recently completed an Alpha Course at HMP Buckley Hall in Rochdale. As usual we called upon the prison Governor to come to the final session in the chapel to hand out the completion certificates. This also gives opportunity for him to ask those who attended what they got out of the course.

Now prison Governors being very busy, usually cannot stay very long. They have always been genuinely interested in the work we do with Alpha and do try to give the men chance to express how they feel they have benefitted from the course, but often soon have to be elsewhere.

However, on this occasion the Governor took the time to stay with us for quite a while. He came to the chapel early, before the prisoners arrived and spoke with us about the work of the chaplaincy. I then explained how I would open the session with prayer and a song, then hand over to him to chat to the men and hand out the certificates. I said I realised he was a busy man and asked if he was O.K. to stay and he said it was fine. He said what he had to do would still be there waiting for him and it wasn't an issue.

Several of the men had come to know the Lord or rededicated their lives to him. The Governor really engaged in conversation with those attending and was genuinely interested to hear their feedback.

Please pray for this man and for the prison authorities in general, that they will gain a better understanding and more of appreciation of the value of the chaplaincy in prisons.

Does Paul Comfort People On Our City Streets?

Yes, Through The Power Of Prayer The Lord Provides Comfort To Those Suffering!

Recently Paul came across D for the second time, and having prayed with her the first time he felt there was something to build on. D explained about a court appearance she was involved in and shared information going back to her childhood, much of it difficult. As Paul thought about what to pray for D about she revealed an attachment to a particular religious group that made Paul reconsider his approach. Having prayed with D he moved on reflecting on how he now had much more knowledge to go on in order to encourage D towards a commitment to Christ.
