SPACE FOR SILENCE

In St Margaret's Church this term, we're planning to get together to try out the practice of silent prayer and contemplation. Over four one-hour sessions, the first of them on Tuesday 29th September at 6 pm, we will have a go at short periods of Christian contemplation and meditation, spiritual reading, and silent intercession. These periods of intercession will particularly remember the young adults of our islands living with the pain and anxiety of recent deaths, and mental stress, in their age-group - this is our way of showing love for that precious part of our community. The prayers will take up about half of each session, with time for coffee and questions afterwards. It's a very different style of meeting from other types people may attend elsewhere. Everyone is welcome for any of these sessions, no matter what your religious background is (or if you don't think you have one at all).

How do we cope with that hardest of tasks of every Christian, to be the prophetic voice for love and justice in the struggling world? And what do we expect if we ignore the responsibility and hope it just goes away?
The service on Sunday 6 Sept is live-streamed between St Margaret's in the Hope and Kirkside in Longhope, and is conducted by the minister.

A reminder that it's Communion Sunday tomorrow in St Margaret's in the Hope. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper is celebrated at 11 o'clock, and anyone from any branch of the Christian Church is welcome to participate as fully as their own tradition enables.
