Have you ever felt the frustration of being unable to help somebody more? Knowing that somebody you care about is suffering who either isn’t receptive to your help, or their needs are not in your power to meet. It can be heartbreaking to watch people suffer.
Our goal is not to fix every problem young people have. We are always looking, as YWs, to serve people in more meaningful and relevant ways for them, which is great! We have this gift of compassion and understanding, but what about when we don’t know how to help, when you’ve done all you can, what do we do with that compassion?
If our first love is God, your second love is yourself as with your neighbours. But, your first responsibility of care will always be to yourself. Having compassion for others, but know what you can’t do. Draw near to God, he gives wisdom and rest to all who ask.
The impact of our work isn't always immediate or visible, but it’s always meaningful. Being present, listening, and offering guidance is often the most powerful thing we can do… and It’s enough.
Put together some self care ideas and give your heart and mind some solace today:
Proverbs 17:22
New Living Translation (NLT)
22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
