A rather poignant piece to see published in the latest edition of CMA UK’s Chainlink Magazine today — and especially good to see my good friend Radar featured on the front cover.
I wrote “CMA Vectis: Two Years On – Faith, Fellowship and Motorcycles on an Island” as an honest reflection on the first two years of our Isle of Wight branch — the challenges of building something new on an Island, but far more importantly the friendships, fellowship, outreach and ministry that developed along the way.
It records our well-attended breakfasts and Bible studies, involvement in the Island’s motorcycling community, relationships with churches, clubs and other organisations, prison prayer ministry, support for local charities, and the friendship and encouragement we received from CMA members in the UK and around the world.
Most of all, it reflects the contribution of a wonderful group of people who gave their time, faith, friendship, financial support and commitment to CMA Vectis and the wider Christian Motorcyclists Association. For a relatively new Island branch, we had also grown to a membership larger than that of many longer-established CMA UK branches.
What makes its publication particularly poignant is that CMA UK has since shut down this active and developing branch, planned for some time, without giving its locally elected officers any proper explanation or support. Reading this article now, with its honest account of what CMA Vectis was actually doing and achieving, makes that decision even harder to understand.
I am nevertheless very pleased that this positive and truthful record of CMA Vectis has now been published and preserved in CMA UK’s own magazine.
Our motorcycle ministry on the Island has not ended. We are now returning to our local roots as Vectis Motorcycle Ministry, continuing independently, locally led and shaped by the culture and needs of the Isle of Wight, without the difficulties of remote national oversight that did not always understand our unique Island community.
I remain immensely grateful for what we achieved together during those two years, and even more grateful that the friendships, fellowship and ministry continue.
