In 2014 the Isle of Wight group of United Reformed Churches incorporating Shanklin and Freshwater churches with our church in Ryde. The church in situation in grounds of 1.3 acres on the corner of Upton and corbett ROads in Haylands. As well as the church building which doubles as a hall there is Beechgrove House, home to the Casa Dei Bambini Montessori Nursery [during school-term time], and the W
essex Rooms, built in 1986. All the buildings are to a high standard with disabled access to all. The church following some renovation in 2005 now contains a purpose-built kitchen and is home to a wonderful pipe organ, previously located at the Royal Philenthropic Society in Redhill, Surrey. Recent additions to our music supply is the hymnal plus music box which plays music through our sound system when musicians are not available. Following the creation of the IOW group in 2014 the church is served by a part time minister (Rev. Brian Harley) 4 lay preachers, [3 nationally recognised by the General Assembly of the URC and 1 locally recognised], as well as visiting preachers lead our morning worship at 10.30 each Sunday morning
The church is home to the Haylands Horticultural Society, whose Horticultural show on the third Saturday of September really brings the local community together with exhibits by exhibitors not just in Haylands and the surrounding area, but also from East Cowes, St Helens and afar. Following 2 years of lockdowns etc the show takes place on Saturday 17th September - same day as IOW day.
