Quarr Abbey Internships Quarr Abbey offers men between the ages of 18 and 25 the possibility of spending a couple of months at the monastery as interns. Write to [email protected]

Quarr Abbey is invites applications from men between the age of eighteen and twenty-five for a limited number of monastic internships. These will offer the successful candidates the possibility of living in the monastery for eight weeks, following a way of life similar to that of the monks. During this time they will learn about the Benedictine tradition and have the opportunity to deepen their pr

ayer and reflection on the Bible. They will be expected to contribute by their work to the welfare of the monastery and in return will receive board, lodging, teaching and guidance. The hope is that, with God’s help, they will establish a lasting spiritual foundation for their lives. Programmes will be arranged according to the dates that suit successful candidates. Early application is advised for the summer months, as this is when the greatest demand is. Those interested in applying are asked to write to Father Luke Bell at [email protected]

We aim to offer you:

-Two months stay, with full board and lodging in an area set aside for interns, in the peace and seclusion of our monastery and its grounds.
-A share in the life of the monastery, both its prayer and its work.
-Time and quiet for prayer and prayerful reading of the Bible and the writings of the saints.
-Guidance with this reading and prayer.
-Teaching from the monks on such subjects as The Rule of Saint Benedict, monastic history, liturgy, scripture and spiritual writers.
-The possibility of talking to someone who will listen to you.
-Some opportunity to socialise with the monks. We ask of you:

-Attendance at most of the monastic offices of prayer.
-Reflection with an open heart on God’s word in the Bible and willingness to pray.
-Observance of the times and places of silence, and the rules of enclosure, customary in the monastery.
-Attendance at classes as indicated above.
