We’ve been busy getting Stonelaw Church ready for Doors Open Days — and we’d love to welcome you through the doors tomorrow and on Sunday!

As part of Rutherglen 900, this is a chance to step inside our beautiful B-Listed Gothic church, have a look around, and discover some of the story of Stonelaw and its place in the life of Rutherglen.

⏰ 1pm–4pm

There will be displays of historic photographs, documents, books and records, giving a glimpse into the people, worship and community life that have been part of Stonelaw's story over the years.

You’ll also be able to explore the sanctuary, see some of the features of this wonderful old building, and chat to members of the church who will be on hand throughout the weekend.

And, of course, there’ll be tea, coffee and refreshments waiting for you too! ☕

Whether you’ve been part of Stonelaw for years, grew up in the area, have a connection with the church, or have simply walked past our doors and wondered what’s inside — come in and say hello.

This Sunday we continue our sermon series at Stonelaw called Rooted. Over the past few weeks we’ve been thinking about what it means to grow a faith that lasts — being rooted in Christ, in God’s Word and in prayer. This week we come to something at the very heart of our faith: grace.

Grace means that we don’t have to earn God’s love, prove ourselves worthy or work our way into favour. Salvation is a gift, freely given to us through Jesus.

And when we begin to live from grace rather than trying to work for it, it changes the way we see ourselves, God and the lives we’re called to live. So perhaps the question for us this week is simply: Where are we trying to earn what God has already given?

This past Sunday we continued our ROOTED series as we thought about what it means to be Rooted in the Word.

In a world full of voices, opinions and pressures, God invites us to put down deep roots in His Word.

One of the key reminders from the message was that the Bible isn't simply about giving us more information. God's Word is meant to shape us. It challenges us, comforts us, corrects us and teaches us how to live.

We don't need to make a huge promise or suddenly become Bible experts. We can start small. Open it. Sit with it. Listen for God's voice. Let His truth take root.

Because, over time, God's Word begins to work its way into us — making us “a little more patient, a little quicker to forgive, a little slower to judge, a little more hopeful, and a little more like Jesus.”

This Sunday we continue our sermon series at Stonelaw called Rooted.

Last week we began by thinking about what it means to be rooted in Christ, and this week we’re taking the next step as we think about what helps those roots grow deeper — God’s Word.

As we look at Psalm 1 and 2 Timothy 3, we’ll discover that God’s Word is more than simply information for our heads. It shapes our thinking, nourishes our souls and anchors our lives, helping us grow and become more like Jesus.

We’ll also think about the things that can get in the way of making space for Scripture, and how we can develop a simple, sustainable rhythm of listening to God through His Word.

❤️ Quotes from Sunday’s Sermon ❤️

As we began our new ROOTED series, we explored a simple but challenging question from Colossians 2:1–7: What are we rooted in?

All of us are rooted in something. Paul reminds us that our lives are to be “rooted and built up” in Christ. The Christian life begins with Jesus, but it doesn’t stop there. We are called to keep walking with Him, keep trusting Him, and keep growing in Him.

One of the key reminders from the message was that “before we do anything for Jesus, we need to know Jesus.” Before activity comes relationship. Before fruit comes roots. Before we try to build ourselves up, we need to be rooted in Him.

And that matters because storms will come. Circumstances will change. Feelings will shift. People may disappoint us. But when our roots are in Christ, we have somewhere secure to stand.

Maybe that’s the challenge for us this week: not simply to ask, “What am I doing for Jesus?” but to ask, “Am I actually staying close to Jesus?”
