A prayer written by a member of our congregation following the Big Church Festival accident last week.

Father God, our creator and sustainer,
Loving Jesus, our friend and Saviour,
Holy Spirit, our companion and comforter,

We are filled with sadness and our hearts are heavy following the tragic accident at the Big Church Festival on Friday. What began as a celebration of all that is good - music, dancing, worship, fun and the joy of being together with you and each other - so soon became a place of eerie quiet and concern, where prayers were whispered, urgent texts were sent, tears flowed and hugs were shared.

We thank you for the life and ministry of Pastor Robert Guanco from Eastbourne, who so sadly lost his life. We pray that his family, friends, church and community will know your comfort and love in their grief and loss. We also pray for those who were injured, for physical and emotional healing and a deep peace that only you can provide.

We thank you for those who so quickly helped, with action, first aid and offers of support. Thank you for the swift response of the emergency services, their expertise and care. Please enfold them all in your love as they process what they experienced.

We thank you for the whole Big Church team – the organisers, production and construction teams, the Christian artists, the charities and stallholders. They have shown such dedication and hard work in all their preparations and are heartbroken. Please give them your peace and wisdom as they process the events and make difficult decisions.

We thank you for the 40,000 people who were attending the festival - campers and day-visitors, people of all ages from a wide variety of places and backgrounds. You know how each and every one of us is feeling and what we need. Thank you for the many kindnesses, big and small, that have been, and continue to be, shared during this difficult time. May your community of followers unite in their love for you and each other so that the world may catch a glimpse of your kingdom.

Lord, it is a struggle to understand why such sad things happen, both locally and in the wider world. Help us to trust in you and remind us that nothing can separate us from your love.

We pray that the light of your love shines through the darkness, bringing hope and drawing people everywhere to your wonderful grace.

What's On This Week: Monday 31st August - Sunday 6th September

Wednesday afternoon - Littlehampton Community Fridge will be in the Church car park between 2:15 pm and 2:45 pm (timings are approximate as once the food is gone, it's gone).

Thursday morning - Coffee and Games Morning is back, join us between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm for a drink and a chat with board games available to play if you wish. Everyone welcome.

Thursday afternoon - Stepping Stones, Ladies Club meet from 2pm in the hall. This week is Welcome and Bingo. If you would like more information, please contact the Church office.

Friday afternoon - Come and Sing, if you enjoy singing or listening to hymns and worship songs join us from 2:30 pm for about an hour.

Saturday morning - Littlehampton Community Fridge will be in the Church car park between 10:30 am and 11:15 am (timings are approximate as once the food is gone, it's gone).

Saturday evening - Circuit Welcome Service at 6pm with refreshments after the service.

Sunday morning - Sunday Worship will be ONE SERVICE ONLY at 10 am.

Incredibly sad to hear the news from Big Church Festival. Join us in praying for all those impacted.

We are devastated by the serious incident that took place at Big Church Festival 2026 today, in which a sign fell, injuring at least seven people, one of whom tragically lost their life.

First and foremost, all of our thoughts are with those who have been affected, their families and friends, and everyone who witnessed what happened.

Following today’s incident, we have made the decision to bring Big Church Festival 2026 to a close.

The Preacher for the service is Reverend Conrad Hicks.
