Tomorrow is Pentecost!

Join us as we celebrate the beginnings of the church through the fire of the Holy Spirit.

To many, fire is destructive, fire causes devistation and harm. To the church it is a never ending symbol of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Services at 8:30 Book of common prayer, followed by the 10:30 Mass.

All are most welcome!

😊

Your Church awaits you.

Our service today is looking at the theme of Leadership and how following Jesus Christ is the correct path as opposed to following the theif and bandit.

Jesus in our reading from John 10:1-10 is trying to aleart us to the dangers of those who would lead us away from him and steal both our Joy and our soul, and there is no better story to use than this, especially in todays day and age.

Do join us at 10:30 today, you will be made most welcome !

Taking a moment to thank our friends at VML for all of their kinds support and work towards St Michael’s mission and Ministry.

VML is a charity that gives opportunities for all people, regardless of income or social status the chance to experience and take part in theatre productions or musical performances. But more than this VML is in many ways a lifeline and a blessing to the community.

Thank you for all you do. šŸ™‚šŸ‘

The question comes our way at times about the tradition of St Michaels and where we sit in our churchmanship and Theology, and in a church that is diverse, serving a community that is diverse, these are very relevant questions and are very important for those seeking a spiritual home.

St Michaels is a broad church that leans in many directions, and we are proud of this. Here you can find the more formal Book of Common prayer service every Sunday morning at 8:30am, using the old English language. Then on the first Sunday of the month we loose the formality for our cafƩ church service where we explore a range of topics and have guest preachers in at times. Cafe church is probably a little more charismatic and relaxed. Now our main Sunday service is very sacramental with robes, vestments and both modern and traditional Hymns, some using our beautiful organ and others more contempory sound systems.

We also have a 10am Communion service every Wednesday with coffee afterwards.

Theologically, we are broad. As the vicar i like to use a wide range of the whole church's spiritual resources and you can find people here who would identify closer to the more Anglo-Catholic end of the Church of England, as well as those who feel more comfortable identifying more Evangelical. All of this is a blessing which gives this church a somewhat unique blend of people.

The things that we rest on more than anything here is that all are welcome. All. It doesnt matter who you are or where you are from if you are searching for Jesus Christ and want to grow in faith you are welcome here. Also, Jesus is absolutely central to who we are. His life, his teachings, his example is our highest authority.

Young or old, new Christian or a path well trodden, we have a wonderfully welcoming church and you are invited to be a part of this beautiful family.

It would be great to see you !

Happy St George’s Day !

Presently buried in Lod, Israel. St George is a deeply interesting saint within the church who has sparked imagination and intrigue since his death in the year 303. But who was he?

Well, George was never a crusader knight as is often depicted in English church’s through the UK. He never wore a red crusader cross and never set foot on English soil. All of this often comes as a surprise when I talk about St George to others.

George was a Palestinian man. He was probably dark skinned and a Roman Soldier in the service Emperor Diocletian. The modern depiction of George as a crusader knight was brought to England an adopted during the Crusades itself in 1350 by Edward 3rd. Due to the stories of George’s steadfast faith against trials, his disciplined life, resistance of evil and his bravery in battles.

And the Dragon and maid in the story? Well, George was a very dedicated soldier and as such protection of the vulnerable was a huge part of who he was, soldiers are called to defend the innocent. This is where the young girl in the story comes from, as he fights the Dragon who is said by some scholars to represent the Emperor Diocletian who was ruthless.

Now, Diocletian caught wind of George’s Christian faith and ordered him to denounce his faith or die a most painful death. George, being so certain of his calling and faith chose martyrdom rather than deny Jesus Christ and was tortured mercilessly.

George remains the highest ideal of protecting the innocent, and fighting evil in the world. His faith remains steadfast as an example to us all, hence he is our country’s patron saint and patron to soldiers, scouts, and may other areas.

St George, Patron of England…pray for us !

I stand with my brother in Christ, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, in his courageous call for a kingdom of peace.

As I prepare to visit Rome later this month to meet and pray with Pope Leo, I am mindful of his call to keep our eyes open to the suffering of the world, and our gaze fixed on our crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ – the image of the invisible God, in whose image and likeness every human being is made. In him, we recognise that we are children of the one Father and members of a single human family. Prayer is not an escape from the world, nor a turning away from injustice; rather, it is a turning towards God in the midst of it, confronting evil, seeking God’s will, and becoming instruments of transformation and peace.

In a world which is largely silent on Christian persecution, and a country where our faith is slowly being watered down, we have a choice. The choice is simple…

Do we believe and stand with Jesus Christ accepting no other in his place, no mingling with other ideas. Do we believe in who Jesus was both human and divine, in his birth, life and death as witnessed and written? Do we believe that we sin, each and every one of us and that sin separates us from God?

Do we believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus was the greatest expression of Love for humanity and that Jesus rising from the Tomb beat sin and death?

Today is Easter Day. This day has happened for you. Yes you. Every man and woman reading this, all of our faults and failings placed before that cross and left in the tomb. Today is the resurrection…Today is a new beginning, for he is Risen !

Happy Easter from all at St Michael’s.

This Holy Week has been deeply special, with prayer and devotion flowing through St Michael’s.

Each day we have celebrated key moments, prayed together and reflected upon Christs Journey. Today we ended with the power, depth and drama of the stations of the cross. Topped off by the fitting of our specially made Lawn Cross ready to be adorned with white on Sunday.

St Michael’s truly is a special place, a place where all are made welcome and most of all a place where we hope all people can meet with Jesus Christ.

We hope to see you tomorrow 8pm for our Vigil service or Sunday for Easter Day.

(Deepest thanks to Spencer and his Manager, Rob for the cross. Greatly appreciatedšŸ™‚šŸ‘)
