11th June is Barnabas the Apostle day. His real name is Joseph and he came from Cyprus. He was given the nickname Barnabas which means 'son of encouragement'. He helped the Christian in Jerusalem accept Paul, who had previously persecuted them. He was such a help to so many in the early church he earned this nickname. You can read abou Barnabas in the book of Acts. Encouragement is very important to give and also great to receive. Make a point of encouraging someone today.

Today is Ascension Day. Ascension Day is the 40th day of Easter. It occurs 39 days after Easter Sunday. It is a Christian holiday that commemorates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven. In another 10 days we will be celebrating Pentecost Sunday when Jesus sent to Holy Spirit to empower the church to go out and spread the message of forgiveness and hope to the whole world.
