August has been a relatively quiet month for the temple as the monks observe Phansa, the three month Buddhist Lent period. There has though been quite a number of invitations for the monks to attend blessings at people’s homes and businesses, and we are always happy to offer this to our many supporters.
The new hall continues to generate a lot of interest, and we are still getting 100% positive feedback. Than Thirasak has now received the quotation for all the decorative items that will be made in Thailand. These have all been designed by a renowned Thai artist who specialises in Northern Thai temple artwork, and are to be made from high grade stainless steel which will be laser cut into very intricate designs. The traditional material is 304 Stainless Steel, but we have had to request a higher quality material to suit our environment which has of course increased the costs quite significantly. We have now started a fund-raising programme to help fund these amazing adornments to the Ubosot Hall, details on this are available from the temple.
We’ve been having issues with our energy supplier, who, for reasons best known only to themselves, decided to cancel our long-standing Direct Debits. Fortunately, we spotted this and brought it to their attention, but it’s taken them three months to (hopefully) get new DD’s set up.
At the end of August we started work on the new Ceremonial Gateway, Access Ramp, and new Store that will replace the old sectional concrete garage. Unfortunately, this will result in some disruption, and we would kindly ask anyone visiting the temple to avoid the area between the temple car park and the adjacent Top Locks car park. The aim is to have safe access in this area before our Kathina celebration which this year is on Sunday 15 November.
