St. James the Great, Longdon

St. James the Great, Longdon St. James' church is a medieval Church of England building and the only place of worship in Longdon, We look forward to welcoming you.

James the Great church has existed since about 1150AD, possibly replacing an earlier Saxon building. It is on the A51 road, an ancient coaching route between Lichfield and Chester. The parish covers Longdon, Longdon Green and Upper Longdon along with parts of Gentleshaw and is in the diocese of Lichfield, being only a few miles from the Cathedral. The building is usually open in daylight hours and time spent in the tranquility of this ancient place is very rewarding.

St. James' church is holding a pet service on 5th October. Usual 11am start, hymns and prayers. Bring your pet animal as we give thanks for their comforting companionship. It's a bit of an experiment, but what could possibly go wrong? All welcome with or without a furry or feathery friend.

Our curate of last year was priested at St. Peter's, Wolverhampton on Saturday. Nick is the tallest in the picture, taller even than the Bishop in his mitre. Congratulations Nick.

A progress report on the woodworm infestation in Longdon's church organ.
Work has now been completed, the woodworm have been evicted, the organ reassembled and it's working again!
Now, we just have to pay the bill!
Thanks to the many generous people, in and around Longdon, who have responded to the appeal, we are 80% of the way there . .
We still need another £1,100 before reaching the £5,500 cost however so, if you have not done so already, please consider taking part by 'sponsoring a pipe'.
£20 to sponsor one of the large pipes, £10 for a middle-size one, or £5 for a small one.
There are posters on all of the village notice boards with details or https://gofund.me/9ed77795 will take you to our GoFundMe page.
