Sharing a poem which is very appropriate at this time for the Firefighters. Often seen on station walls, giving a boost of courage to the firefighters before responding to an emergency.

The origin of the prayer, originally known as the 'Fireman's Prayer' dates back to the mid 1900's, shortly after the end of the World War II.

The Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life whatever be its age.

Help me to embrace a little child before it's too late,
Or some older person from the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and give the best in me,
To guard my neighbour and protect his property.

And if according to Your Will I have to lose my life,
Please bless with Your Protecting Hand my children and my wife.

Easter meditation S.M. Lockridge (1913-2000)

It's Friday But Sunday's comin'
It’s Friday
Jesus is praying
Peter’s a sleeping
Judas is betraying
But Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
Pilate’s struggling
The council is conspiring
The crowd is vilifying
They don’t even know
That Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
The disciples are running
Like sheep without a shepherd
Mary’s crying
Peter is denying
But they don’t know
That Sunday’s a comin’

It’s Friday
The Romans beat my Jesus
They robe him in scarlet
They crown him with thorns
But they don’t know
That Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
See Jesus walking to Calvary
His blood dripping
His body stumbling
And his spirit’s burdened
But you see, it’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
The world’s winning
People are sinning
And evil’s grinning

It’s Friday
The soldiers nail my Saviour’s hands
To the cross
They nail my Saviour’s feet
To the cross
And then they raise him up
Next to criminals
It’s Friday
But let me tell you something
Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
The disciples are questioning
What has happened to their King
And the Pharisees are celebrating
That their scheming
Has been achieved
But they don’t know
It’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
He’s hanging on the cross
Feeling forsaken by his Father
Left alone and dying
Can nobody save him?
Oh!
It’s Friday
But Sunday’s comin’

It’s Friday
The earth trembles
The sky grows dark
My King yields his spirit

It’s Friday
Hope is lost
Death has won
Sin has conquered
and Satan’s just a laughin’

It’s Friday
Jesus is buried
A soldier stands guard
And a rock is rolled into place

But it’s Friday
It is only Friday
Sunday is a comin’!

Francis House Children’s Hospice 2026 Easter Appeal

Every year, thousands of little woolly items flock into Francis House Children’s Hospice, knitted by crafty supporters from across the world.

The chicks, rabbits, lambs and little hats are filled with a donated chocolate egg and sold in schools, stores and businesses all across Greater Manchester to raise funds for the Hospice. Last year they raised a grand total of £95,311 for the Hospice.

The funds we have helped to raise will support seriously ill children and their families, giving them a much-needed break from the stresses and strains of difficult times. Families go to Francis House Children’s Hospice to talk, to play, to laugh, to cry, and to find the space, time and one-to-one support they need in their most challenging times.

This year the members and friends of “Crafts & Creations” put their needles to work in support of this Easter Chick Appeal for the Hospice. We sent chicks, rabbits, lambs and hats totalling 574 items to Francis House Children’s Hospice in Manchester.

Thanks to everyone for the tremendous response to this Appeal.

The Easter Chick Appeal provides a major source of income for the Hospice.
