Today is Freedom or Religion and Belief Day. In partnership with Christian Solidarity Worldwide the Cathedral Spire will be lit up blue.

We remember and pray for those who suffer persecution for their faith and beliefs. CSW is Christian human rights organization advocating for Freedom of Religion or Belief for all.
As we pray throughout this week, let us remember those who face discrimination, harassment, and violence because of their faith, and ask God to bring justice, hope, and peace.

Religiously motivated violence can take many forms. In some countries it is primarily perpetrated by terrorist groups driven by religious extremism or using religion as a rallying point. In other countries, mobs are often emboldened by a lack of consequences – or even by inflammatory remarks from government officials.

So we remember and pray for the work of peacemakers, that the church can model radical forgiveness, love for enemies and peaceful co-existence.

We pray for religious leaders and call on God the protector to watch over religious leaders whose work and influence often places them at risk. We ask God to grant wisdom to speak truth to power, while keeping them and their families safe from those who seek to harm them.

And we pray for those in positions of power, that God would touch hearts and change regimes so that the right to freedom of religion or belief is afforded to everyone, everywhere.

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." (Colossians 4:2)

Our spire will be lit in purple tonight to support the Purple4Polio Campaign. This vibrant colour symbolises the purple dye painted on a child's finger after receiving their life-saving oral polio vaccine. Nationally, the Rotary Club are busy planting millions of purple crocus bulbs this autumn. Find more information here https://www.rotarygbi.org/projects/purple4polio/

Our spire will be lit purple tonight for PoTS Awareness Day. Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) is a debilitating, often invisible condition that affects the autonomic nervous system. For many people, something as simple as standing up can cause severe symptoms, yet awareness remains low and diagnosis is often delayed.

Looking for some autumnal family fun? Join us this half-term for three creative activities inspired by the colours, creatures and magic of the harvest season!

Monday 26 October: Make your own beautiful autumn wreath! 🍂

Tuesday 27 October: Spot the animals hidden in our harvest display and create a transparent leaf suncatcher to catch the last of the autumn sunshine! 🐿️

Wednesday 28 October: Get creative and make your very own beaded harvest animal keyring to take home! 🍁

All activities run from 10:30am–2:30pm.
