Ethos for Rochdale Unitarian Church:

“We aim to be a faith community which supports individuals in taking ownership of and responsibility for personal beliefs and actions. A faith community, we offer a supporting environment in which to embrace life and its challenging questions.”

Unitarians practise a style of religious living and worship which encourages people to discover themselves and purs

ue the divine. They are under no pressure from creeds, scriptures or church. Unitarians accept that religion is open to change and development in the light of new thought and discovery, and are united by a common concern for the quality of life. All are welcome to join us for our Sunday morning services, which start at 10.30 am in Rochdale Unitarian Church, Clover Street, ROCHDALE, OL12 6TP. The present multi-purpose building was opened on 29 July 1974, and provides for a wide variety of religious and social activities. The building boasts “pre-Raphaelite” altar windows, designed by famous Victorian artist Edward Burne-Jones, which were retained from Blackwater Street building and serve as a constant reminder of shared heritage. For more information see: (http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/sites/rochdale-unitarian-church). We are active members of the Rochdale Multi-faith Partnership. There is evidence of Unitarians in Rochdale as early as 1512. Blackwater Street Chapel had the distinction of being the oldest non-conformist church in Rochdale, dating from 1717 (replaced in 1856 and demolished in 1972 to make way for the new market). Clover Street Chapel was dedicated in 1818. The two congregations amalgamated in 1890, with Sunday worship being held in Blackwater Street and Sunday School in Clover Street. The original Unitarian Chapel which stood on our present site was frequently dubbed the “Co-op Chapel” because so many of the original Rochdale Pioneers worshipped there. This morning’s service honoured the diversity of Mothers and the experiences of being mothered.
Within the joy and appreciation of this day, we acknowledged the complexities and the pain that can accompany it.

With a rootedness in Mother Earth, we considered the complexity of our closest relationship and the healing of them, as the way to coming back to relationship with the ‘Mother’ of all.

Our closing benediction …
Life and Love search for you
and their searching will never cease.
May you be found
in all the places you are not known,
recognised and beckoned,
with every invitation.
And may you meet the stranger,
whom you are,
with understanding and compassion,
and in your meeting may you find your way home 🙏

With love to all this Mothering Sunday ❤️🤗

Love is all around us ❤️- a process with the desire for life, ever transforming and ever expanding.

Our sunday service starts at 10.30am - they’ll be time for meditation and prayer, to sing if you want, to listen to what’s offered as nourishment for you to take or leave.

Give yourself the gift of an hour, to be with that which you may know as God or by another name, or no name at all.
You are welcome just as you are 🤗 🙏

What does it mean to be Unitarian? 🤔 - fundamentally, it’s the recognition that connection (in the physical world or any other) isn’t bound by the ideas of any one belief system. We are connected by love, by mutual respect and the honouring of all that is created (by whatever we understand as the source of creation) beyond concepts of rightness and wrongness. In connection and community we thrive, individually and collectively 🙏❤️🌎

Religious freedom isn't mere permission to believe—it's a heartfelt welcome to belong, exactly as you are.
In a liberal religious community, we set the table for every seeker, doubter, and soul in between.
Diversity doesn't dilute faith; it deepens the divine conversation.
