🌒 Moonsighting News from RCM (17.04.26)

‎بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

‎السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُه

At the meeting of RCM held on 17th April 2026, members took into consideration the following:
🔹Conditions in UK and news of actual sighting (Muhaqaq Ru’ayat e Basri) from anywhere east of UK; and
🔹Information from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Morocco and Jamiat-e-Ulama from South Africa regarding the sighting of the new moon;
and decided based on the negative sighting the 1st of DHUL QA’DAH 1447 AH for Rochdale will be on Sunday , 19th April 2026

It with sadness we inform of the passing of one of the beloved sons of Golra Shareef. Syed Pir Syed Fareed ul Haq Gilani. He was one of the great great grandsons of Pir Syed Mehr Ali Shah of Golra Shareef, Pakistan.

Our Hafiz Sahib, Hafiz Mofeed Ahmed (who has recited the Quran in Taraweeh for the past few years) - his father Haji Muhammad Majeed Sahib has passed away today.

We ask Allah ta’allah to grant Haji Sahib acceptance and forgiveness for the sake of the Quran that his son and his students have memorised and recited.

Go out and see the moon if you can - here are some great tips!

Tips for sighting the moon on Thursday 19 March -
(1) LOCATE the moon using binoculars first
(2) Then look in the place you have spotted it with your naked eyes

You can also use Venus to help you.

“Please ensure the Sun has well and truly set before looking for the Moon, as accidentally viewing the Sun with your naked eye could damage your eyesight.

At around 20 minutes after sunset, the Moon sits 5° above the horizon. Venus should be visible at this time, 9° above and left of where the Moon should be; that’s a fraction smaller than the 10° width of your fist at arm’s length.

At 30 minutes after sunset, the Moon will be around 3.5° above the horizon, probably close to its visibility limit. If you do manage to view or photograph this Moon, well done.

You’ll have caught the Moon at just 17 hours old!“
