'We are deeply moved to see the gospel message of equality being reflected in the election of the first woman as the spiritual leader of the Church of England and the global Anglican Communion.

We join with Christians everywhere in delighting at this watershed moment after centuries of discrimination against women whose vocations to leadership were denied to placate those who prioritised patriarchal hierarchy over the teachings of Jesus.'

Bleak Day for Catholic Church — From WOW International Group, Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research:
Christmas greetings dear friends, trustees and patrons,

We are so grateful for your support this past year - a very sad one for us after the death of our founder Dr John Wijngaards on January 2nd 2025. However his inspiration lives on and we'll be sending a year in review in January 2026 showing the ways in which our media mentions, educational material and academic studies have helped to bring about positive progress.

But, in the meantime, we would like to share with you our last publication of this year - revealing the Vatican's cover up of the truth behind their recent decision on women deacons.

Dr Luca Badini Confalonieri of our Institute considers the No from the Commission highlights the lack of good faith from the Vatican.

The entire process he said particularly the selection of members of the study commission and study group has been carried out ‘without transparency’ .He criticized the outcome as deeply wrong both historically and theologically and called for the commission to publish all the materials it relied on.

The main discussion point throughout the Synod on Synodality was the urgent need to include women in official ministry with indications that the prospect of restoring a diaconate to women was really a possibility. Instead, a committee of 10 Vatican insiders — plus not one, but two Popes — decided against it.

“At its last session, held in February 2025, the commission received substantial and significant written material for analysis on the question of the female diaconate,” Cardinal Petrocci, tasked with heading Study group 5, wrote to Pope Leo. It is unclear whether the commission reviewed the material beforehand or read it all during its February meeting; it is also unclear from the report how long the meeting lasted. Whereas other meetings’ dates are recorded (Sept. 13-18, 2021, and July 11-16, 2022), only the final report’s date is given for 2025: Feb. 7.

An article in America states that the report has not been published in full; what was published last week and has often been called the “Petrocchi Commission Report” is actually a summary letter sent from the cardinal to the pope on Sept. 18. Pope Leo ordered the summary to be published last week.

In the letter, Cardinal Petrocchi downplayed the 22 contributions that the commission received after the synod, saying that they came from a limited number of countries and thus, “although the material is abundant and, in some cases, skillfully argued, it cannot be considered the voice of the Synod, much less of the People of God as a whole.” Moreover Cardinal Petrocchi wrote ' many women described their work for the Church, often carried out with great dedication, as if it were a sufficient criterion for ordination to the diaconate. Others spoke of a strong “feeling” of having been called, as if it were the necessary proof to guarantee the Church the validity of their vocation and demand that this conviction be accepted. Many already held diaconal functions, especially in communities without a priest, and believed they were “worthy” of receiving ordination, having, in some way, acquired the right.'

This is clear evidence that Catholics everywhere — even Synodal participants themselves — have been kept in the dark about who the participants were and what was discussed. Below is a forensic examination of all the machinations to deceive and deny women’s role in the church and how the Vatican has dissembled their decision-making process.

We wish you and your loved ones every blessing this Christmas time and a very happy new year!

Please read and share this open letter & invitation to Pope Leo from Women's Ordination Worldwide:

'We know that you know there is no theological or scriptural impediment to women’s sacramental ministry. As a Canon lawyer, it must pain you to hear the misogynistic myths claiming women never exercised ministries. In particular, Canon Law 1024, which denies the fact that women receive the same baptism as men; the core qualification for all ministries, as demonstrated by the early followers of Jesus.'

September 17, 2025 Dear Pope Leo, As we gather today in Bingen to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Hildegard, we found it an appropriate time to send you this letter of welcome from Women’s Ordination Worldwide (WOW). We recognise that the message of unity is a core tenet of your pontificate. As

On how to respond to the accusation of 'clericalism' against women who would (and should) be priests!

"If clericalism is so inevitable, why is the Church still welcoming male vocations to the priesthood—surely these young men are just as “at risk” of being clericalised?
If we accept that many male priests have a true vocation to service and spirituality and will not become clericalised, why can we not extend that benefit of the doubt to women?"

The hierarchy of the Catholic Church—the clerical caste—is increasingly justifying the exclusion of women from ministry, claiming that ordination risks “clericalising women.”

A fabulous article from The Progressive Magazine exploring the consequences of challenging the Catholic Church as a woman:

“The reason for ordaining women as priests is because they should always have been priests,” Duignan says. “If we had an uninterrupted history and an uninterrupted tradition, women would be priests. There is no reason to exclude them other than ancient prejudice.”

A global movement of women becoming priests shows no signs of stopping, despite the steep consequences.

Save the Date - 6pm UK time this coming Thursday. Join us as we honour the Founder of womenpriests.org, Dr John - Hans - Wijngaards.

A coming virtual event: Our friends at the UK's Root and Branch Community for Reform are delighted that Miriam Duignan and Dr Luca Badini have accepted their invitation to honour R&B with an evening dedicated to our amazing friend, John (Hans) Wijngaards. Hans, the founder of WOW international group Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research passed away on 2nd January this year.

Miriam and Luca are carrying his legacy forward. With them will be Dr Kochurani Abraham, who contributed a chapter to Hans's final book of Meditations, Why Christ Rejects All Church Prejudice Against Women.

Miriam has served on WOW's International Steering Committee for many years and this year was a participant in our Pink Smoke Vigil at the Conclave in Rome.

John / Hans Wijngaards has done more than any other individual to explain and refute the Church's painful rejection of women's equality. Visit https://www.wijngaardsinstitute.com/ or https://womenpriests.org/john-wijngaards/ for his lifetime's work to find the largest online archive of material in support of the ordination of women — receiving a million unique readers in one year alone. What would he say to Pope Leo?

Miriam Duignan, Executive Director of Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research, tells it like it is. We never tire of being in her feisty and incredibly knowledgeable company. Click to enjoy a short interview that she did with Radio Kerry last week, explaining why she and three colleagues were detained by police in the Vatican Square last week, and you'll see what we mean. She is shown here delivering the Wijngaards Synodal Petition on the Ordained Diaconate for Women in Rome last autumn. Don't miss your chance to hear her!

Luca Badini, Director of Research at WICR, brings a powerful level of knowledge and illumination to our understanding of governance in the RC Church. Author of Democracy in the Christian Church. An Historical, Theological and Political Case, he is also the Co-ordinator of the widely-respected 2022 A Proposed Constitution for the Catholic Church. Luca' s finger is on the pulse of academic and theological research. It's always a great pleasure to hear him, and bring ourselves up to speed on Wijngaards' great work assisting our Church into the 21st century.

R&B have the very great pleasure of hosting Dr Kochurani Abraham as our guest here, and again next month at our Stand By Me evening on 7th June. She is a feminist theologian, gender researcher and trainer from India, equally at home in academia and amongst the grassroots. She is a founder of Sisters in Solidarity, SIS, supporting women survivors of clergy sexual abuse in India. We're delighted to welcome Kochurani particularly as one of the scholars from six continents providing the concluding chapters to Hans's last book, above, showing that Church prejudice oppresses women around the globe.
