A true disciple has returned to his Shepherd.

Many members across the country will have fond and cherished memories of Joseph Leece, whether from his church roots in Dundee, his service as a counsellor and later president of the Preston England Stake, or more recently from his exemplary service alongside his wife Lyn as president and matron of the Preston England Temple.

For most of us he was the quintessential temple president, a calling seemingly made for such a man. Not only did he look the part in his white suit with his matching white locks, but he was invariably loving towards all, and in turn universally loved by us. His kindly smile, the Scottish lilt of his gently probing humour and, perhaps most of all, the sparkle of those clear blue eyes could melt most hearts. It was always a pleasure to see his interaction with members wherever he encountered them; at church, on the temple site, or along temple hallways. He always had something uplifting to share, whether from his fount of interesting anecdotes and quotations, or an aspect of gospel doctrine that he was studying and keen to share.

For a very long time to come, most of us will picture Joseph Leece in the temple, the place where he seemed both at home and most content in the Lord’s service, and recall with a fond smile the great privilege it was to know and love the man. What a wonderful example he left for us to follow!

We will always love you, Joseph. At this sad time we extend our great love and condolences to his dear companion Lyn and their children and grandchildren, of whom he was rightly proud.
