Ukraine is recovering after last night’s severe attack. The main target was Kyiv, the capital, along with other major cities across the country. Many of the missiles and drones were intercepted, but there is still a high number of civilian casualties and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
Infrastructure can be rebuilt, but human lives cannot be replaced. That is the reality.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims.

On May 24, Ukraine came under one of the largest attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion. The main target was the capital city, Kyiv. The assault involved a wide range of weapons, including drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.
Many towns and villages were damaged or destroyed. Tragically, the attack left many people dead and injured.
Please join the Ukraine Division in prayer for an end to the aggression and for peace.

The Salvation Army – 24 May 2026

Corps Sergeant-Major Paul led our Pentecost celebrations at The Salvation Army in Redruth on 24 May. The first thing he said to us was: ‘The Holy Spirit is here now’ and we experienced the Spirit’s presence throughout the meeting. Following the joint reading of Acts 2:1-4, which describes the coming of the Holy Spirit to the first disciples, we sang ‘For the mighty moving of thy Spirit’. This was followed by ‘This is the day’, where the third verse talks about the coming of the Holy Spirit and the fact that we need to ‘rejoice and be glad in it’. The singing group sang two linked songs, ‘I’m trying to be like Jesus’ and ‘To be like Jesus’, and the band played ‘Hallelujah to the Lamb’. We greatly enjoyed singing ‘Lord of the Church, we pray for our renewing’. Sergeant-Major Paul encouraged us by saying that God wants us all to have an individual relationship with the Holy Spirit, who will always teach, guide and help us. The meeting finished with a lovely video of singer/songwriter Ed Bolduc singing about the healing of the world and praying: ‘Let the peace of God surround us where we are.’

Pentecost marks the ‘birthday’ of the Church.

Seven weeks after celebrating Jesus’ resurrection at Easter, we remember a particular gathering of his followers.

Extraordinary things happened – strong winds, bright flames and the ability to speak in languages they’d never spoken before! They were filled with the Holy Spirit, God’s presence with us.

This moment changed everything. Empowered in new ways, they shared the story of Jesus with others and thousands of people made the decision to join them.

They shared together and helped people in need as part of a loving community. What started that day became what we know today as church.

Today, Christians around the world celebrate the moment the Church began. Happy birthday!

The Salvation Army – 17 May 2026

The meeting held at The Salvation Army in Redruth on 17 May began with the reading of Psalm 33, which begins: ‘Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous’. This was followed by our opening song, ‘Crown him with many crowns’, and our prayer song, ‘King of kings, majesty, God of Heaven living in me’. The theme of the meeting was ‘A Living Legacy’ and we looked together at the legacy Jesus left his disciples, focusing on John 14:1-17. Major Lindsey encouraged us by saying that Jesus’ promise of his presence and peace still holds true for us, whatever circumstances we are facing. The message from the band also held that reassurance as we listened to the tune ‘Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine’. The singing group’s song, ‘Sing the wondrous love of Jesus’, had a definite ‘country’ vibe. In her testimony, Major Philippa talked about an Afghan Moslem translator who, at great risk to himself, helped Salvation Army officers working in Afghanistan during the war there. It was a wonderful example of different faiths working together to help others. We then sang ‘Help us build a loving world… a caring world… a peaceful world… a happy world’.

The Salvation Army – 10 May 2026

Our focus in the meeting held at The Salvation Army in Redruth on 10 May was on the work of the Divine Gardener in the lives of believers. We began by singing ‘Lord of creation, to you be all praise’ and this was followed by the Bible reading, from John 15:1-8, where Jesus tells his disciples: ‘I am the vine, you are the branches’ (verse 5). Paul, John and Philippa gave their testimonies, speaking about the joys of gardening and the beauty of our world and the night sky. The singing group sang ‘All that I am, all I can be’ and the band played the hymn tune ‘Wells’. Before Major Lindsey brought the message, we watched a lovely video by Brian Doerksen, which married beautiful pictures from the world of nature and the animal kingdom with a song which asked the question: ‘How could I say there is no God when all around Creation calls?’ Major Lindsey talked about how plants need water to survive and encouraged us to depend on Jesus, the Living Water, to produce spiritual fruit in our lives. We ended the meeting with the great hymn ‘How great thou art!’.

The Salvation Army – 3 May 2026

Major Lindsey challenged us all to respond to Jesus’ call: ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men’ during the meeting held at The Salvation Army in Redruth on 3 May. She assured us that God wants to use our talents and skills to build his Kingdom. We were especially blessed as Marina – who is originally from Ukraine – played the piano piece ‘This I Promise You’ for us. The singing group sang ‘Hand me down my silver trumpet, Lord’ and ‘There’s only one flag for me’ with a great deal of enthusiasm – especially when Major Lindsey seized the corps flag to wave during the chorus. The band played the tune Darwells, which is associated with the words ‘Arise, my soul, arise, shake off thy guilty fears’. Before John led us in prayer, we sang the lovely chorus ‘Abba, Father, let me be yours and yours alone’. Prior to her message, Major Lindsey invited us to sing the old Sunday school chorus ‘I will make you fishers of men’. We sang with great gusto – and actions! Our final song – with drum and tambourines accompanying – was ‘On we march with the blood and the fire’.

The Salvation Army – 26 April 2026

The theme of the meeting held at The Salvation Army in Redruth on 26 April was ‘The Case of Mistaken Identity’. The meeting included a video of the International Staff Songsters singing ‘I’ve just seen Jesus’, which is based on the story of Mary visiting the empty tomb on that first Easter Sunday and meeting Jesus, thinking at first that he was the gardener. The focus of Major Lindsey’s message was on recognising Jesus for who he really is and rejoicing in the fact that he sees us as we really are. We were encouraged to see the world from Jesus’ perspective, with clear and focused spiritual vision. Our worship songs included ‘Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart!’, ‘Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus’ and ‘Out of my darkness God called me’. The band played ‘Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here’ and the singing group sang ‘To the hills I lift my eyes, the distant hills before me’. Our meeting ended with a very enthusiastic rendition of ‘Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord’.
