Update for those like ourselves left asking questions following recent events.

Following a number of recent comments and concerns regarding the churchyard, St Laurence PCC has issued a public statement to help explain the realities, challenges, and decisions involved in caring for such a large and much-loved space.

The statement addresses recent maintenance work, the balance between remembrance and biodiversity, and the increasing pressures of maintaining the churchyard with limited volunteers and financial resources.

We recognise how deeply people care about the churchyard and hope this statement offers honesty, clarity, and an invitation to work together constructively for its future.

Animal lovers will soon be able to give feathered and four-legged friends the final farewell they deserve in Redditch, after the council decided to put in new equipment and services to provide pet cremations.

Expected to be in place by August, a special new pet cremator at the crematorium will allow new pet-only bereavement services to take place there, kept completely separate from human bereavement services.

Council Leader Sharon Harvey, who is responsible for bereavement services, said: “Our Bereavement Services operates with empathy, care and understanding at its core and is committed to serving the community’s needs with dignity and compassion. These principles underpin the expansion into pet cremations, providing a seamless and compassionate offer for residents while being kept completely separate.”

Here's more info on the service, and how public demand for pet services is growing: https://www.redditchbc.gov.uk/news/posts/innovative-addition-to-award-winning-crematorium/

We would like to share with our community that we now have a banner regarding the Bereavement Cafe that is held at church on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. The banner was designed and donated by a very special family, and we are extremely grateful for their kindness and generosity. May God bless you all.
