(Αν η γιορτή έπεφτε Σάββατο η Κυριακή θα καταλύαμε λάδι και οίνο).

Monday 14th Sep, our Holy Church, celebrates the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The fast of the day, is so strict, as if it was the fast of Good Friday. This means that we cannot even include olive oil in our meals.
(If the feast was on Saturday or Sunday, then we could include olive oil and w**e, in our meals)
May the Holy Cross of our Lord, protect all of us 🙏🏻

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we come to the end of another blessed season together, our parish of Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, Reading will be taking a 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 throughout the month of August.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our parishioners, volunteers, and friends for your unwavering love, generosity, and dedication. Every act of service—whether seen or unseen—helps our parish flourish and is a true blessing to our church community. Thank you for everything you do.

🌺✨ 𝐑𝐞𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐬 ✨🌺

Last Sunday, 19th July, our parish family gathered in prayer to celebrate the Feast of our patron, the Holy Prophet Elias.

The Holy Prophet Elias is one of the greatest examples of unwavering faith and powerful prayer. As we heard in the Epistle appointed for his feast:
“𝐸𝑙𝑖𝑗𝑎ℎ 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑎 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑦𝑒𝑑 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑙𝑦... 𝐻𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑦𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑔𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑡𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡." (𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑠 5:17–18)

May his steadfast faith, courage, and fervent prayers inspire each of us to draw ever closer to Christ and to remain faithful in every season of our lives.

A heartfelt 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮 to every single person who contributed to making this year's Feast Day such a wonderful success. Thank you to everyone who prepared and donated food, helped with setting up and clearing away,
welcomed our guests, served throughout the day, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

This Sunday (Prophet Elias Feast Celebration Day) we’re expecting a number of people to attend the service therefore we kindly ask everyone to park their car at Kensington Road car park (located on the road behind the church ), so we have enough car park spaces at the church grounds for our distinguished guests.

Only exceptions allowed to use the car park at church premises are the blue badge holders.

We are excited to announce that Sunday, 19th July is the celebration of our Church's Patron Feast - Holy, Glorious Prophet Elijah (Elias).

This is a very special day in the life of our parish, and we look forward to coming together as a community in a special service of joy and fellowship.

To ensure that everything runs smoothly, we kindly ask for volunteers to help us with various tasks in the days leading up to the feast, as well as on the day itself. From setting up and decorating, to food preparation and cleanup-there are many ways you can lend a hand and be part of making this celebration truly meaningful.

Dear Church Family,

We would like to share an important update regarding the President’s role within our church.

Following the recent transition of our President, Theodora Dimakopoulou, the Church Committee met last Sunday to prayerfully consider and vote on leadership for the remainder of the current term.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Theodora for her faithful service, dedication, and commitment to our church community during her time as President. Her leadership, hard work, and care for our congregation have been deeply appreciated, and we thank her for the many ways she has contributed to the life and ministry of our church. We wish her every blessing and success in this new chapter and pray that God will continue to guide and strengthen her in all that lies ahead.

We are pleased to announce that 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 has been elected to serve as President for the remainder of the current term. We are sincerely grateful that Paul has graciously accepted this responsibility and is willing to serve our church in this important role. His commitment, wisdom, and heart for our congregation will be a great blessing as we move forward together.

Please join us in thanking Paul for his willingness to serve and in welcoming him into this role. We also ask that you keep both Paul and Theodora in your prayers during this time of transition, asking for God's guidance, wisdom, and blessing upon them.

Dear friends,

We wish to bring to your attention the forthcoming UK cinema release of the new historical film Kapodistrias - The Governor, directed by the internationally acclaimed Greek filmmaker Yannis Smaragdis.

The film presents the life, sacrifice, and vision of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of modern Greece and one of the most significant figures of post-independence Hellenism. It is a thoughtful historical portrayal of a man whose life was marked by service, faith, and dedication to the Greek people.

Given the historical and cultural significance of the subject, Greek schools, Philoptochos societies, youth groups, and parishioners with an interest in Greek history and heritage may especially appreciate the opportunity to see the film.

The film will begin screening in selected cinemas across the United Kingdom from 12 June 2026, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Bristol, with additional cities expected to follow.
