We are so delighted to have slacker folk musicians Samuel Austin and Minna at our concerts this year .... but what is slacker folk?

Here's an explanation:
Slacker folk is a subgenre of indie folk that embraces a laid-back, lo-fi aesthetic, often characterized by relaxed vocals, minimal production, and a casual, sometimes ironic approach to songwriting. It shares similarities with slacker rock, which emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a reaction against the polished, commercialized sound of mainstream rock.

Some artists associated with slacker folk include Mac DeMarco, Courtney Barnett, and Alex G, who blend folk elements with a relaxed, DIY approach to songwriting.

If you're looking for music that feels effortlessly cool and unpretentious, slacker folk might be right up your alley!

With annual Concerts at St Mary’s, Aldermaston, we aim to bring all types of music into an ancient and beautiful space. In do so, we hope to raise valuable funds to keep this Grade 1 Listed Building available for use by the local community as both a church and a community building.Buy tickets for ...
