We are a warm and welcoming Modern Orthodox Jewish community of friends based in and around Reading. We cater for all ages including young children.

Our synagogue is a little gem of a building and we love visitors. Come and see us soon! We are a warm friendly Jewish community and the only one in the area to offer regular weekly modern orthodox services and many other activities for all ages including young children both inside our wonderful Synagogue, adjoining community hall and other venues. The Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of Great Britain and the Commonwealth has just dropped by this afternoon for tea and a chat with our community. A very pleasant afternoon!

Community social celebrating Chanukah. Quite a few people joined us (more than what is shown in this photo) including all our recent new members who want to help us maintain the Jewish tradition here in Reading. A good afternoon and catchup for all who haven’t seen each other for a while.

Reading Heritage Open Days. We’re welcoming visitors at the more who want to see the Synagogue and learn a bit about our community!

Saturday 15th July - Visiting Rabbi.
We welcomed Rabbi Claude Vecht-Wolf who led the Shabbat service followed by lunch and Afternoon service. This was a well attended event which everbody thorougly enjoyed taking part, the atmosphere and the commuity spirit. We are looking to organising more services on these lines in the future and look forward to welcoming any local Jewish and other visitors who feel that thay would like to exprience this. This afternoon we welcomed the Chief Rabbi to our Synagogue here in Reading to meet the community and give a fascinating and sociable talk about his thoughts on six areas of interest to the Jewish Community as a whole following the Covid pandemic. He also spent a considerable time to chat and connect with community members, listen to their questions and concerns, and get to know us a little better. Everybody present enjoyed the occasion along with, of course, the substantial ‘tea’ that was provided!

We’ve celebrated both Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur together recently and have a service for Succot at the Synagogue tomorrow.

Passover will be celebrated from this coming Friday evening. Last Monday we spent the day sorting out community member’s Passover food orders!

Last weekend we fielded a team for the national WIZO quiz. We did quite well. However this was also a community get together as well with supper and two birthdays to celebrate with a joint cake and separate candles to blow out. Always good fun!

Our community has a long history stretching back over a 130 years here in Reading. After an break over Xmas and new year due to Covid we were were more than back on track with our Shabbat service last week with almost double the number of attendees. On this occasion we celebrated a special birthday of one of our members and also took part in the JAMI Mental Health Awareness Shabbat which again stressed the importance of Community. People feel the need to get together in person!

Although, at present, we are adhering to a number of Covid rules and have restricted seating, we are able to accommodate Jewish families, singles, etc. who are resident, or perhaps have just moved into, the area & other visitors who would like to come along to our Shabbat morning services and meet our community.
