As usual, James did a great job of leading us in prayer last week. I particularly liked these prayers:

A Prayer to Jesus
For the huge risk you took in becoming human in order to bring out the best in us.
We praise you
For the huge risk you took in entrusting yourself o us and sharing our vulnerability
We Praise you
For the incalculable risk you took in emptying yourself and allowing yourself to be abused and killed in order to free us from the power of evil
We praise you
God who became as we are may we become as you are.

A prayer from the Orthodox tradition
What shall we offer you, O Christ
Who for our sakes appeared on earth as Man
Every creature made by You offers You thanks,
The angels offer you a hymn,
The heavens a star,
The Wise men gifts,
The shepherds their wonder,
The earth a cave
and from our human race we offered you a virgin mother.
God before all ages have mercy upon us

Today we thought about the beginning of Lent , tomorrow. We reflected on how it can be helpful for many of us to use the Lent period to clear our minds of as many day-to-day distractions and general 'dross' to enable us to focus on what is important to help us in our journey of faith.
We prayed for Don's family and friends, particularly for Jackie and Ann; for all people who are involved with the decisions and implementation of children's return to schooling in the UK; for those people in middle management roles, often facing the tricky challenge of looking after the well-being of a team whilst delivery requests from an uncaring or ill-informed senior management. Finally, we will pray for all those, especially church leaders who have crisis of faith.

We gave thanks for keeping Freddie safe and is doing so well at home; for the gift of marriage and especially for the marriage of James and Jane; for the provision of vaccines; for the improvements in health of so many of our friends and acquaintances; for Fraser’s relation as a return to good health proceeds and for Jane’s Mother as we celebrate her independent spirit

On Friday James opened the prayer session with Psalm 23 it was good to hear it outside a funeral. We prayed for people who have put their trust in people or things other than God, particularly of the many people in USA, perhaps feeling let down as they try to continue to be lead by Donald trump. We were reminded of the solidity of always trusting in God. We prayed for people in UK who are suffering in a locked down situation; for the hospital staff and for ourselves that we can be motivated to support others. We prayed for the people of USA that they received wise leadership and can come together as a nation. Finally, we prayed for the many people who have been affected by the death of a child in Emmer Green.

Today we prayed for the people involved in rolling out the vaccine programme; we prayed for peace in our hearts during this time of such huge uncertainty; for people, like ourselves, helping to support working families with their childcare; for us all.

On Monday and today we prayed for the family of the boy who was murdered in Emmer Green yesterday; for our friends and acquaintances who are suffering ill health - that they quickly return to good health ( Helen, Vera, Ben, Katy, Freddy, Eileen, ); for the many people facing a harder time during increased lockdown, especially for those who are making decisions regarding the best place for their children and finally for the people of South Africa, facing the increased uncertainty of a new variant virus. We asked for a calm and equitable transfer of presidency in the USA. We gave thanks for the roll-out of the vaccines and asked for a successful roll-out; also for the Brexit agreement and for an equitable and successful relationship with the EU.
