💫 Something special for Saka Dawa Düchen

Thanks to a recent visit by Venerable Tenzin Gendun, the outdoor Buddha statue has been lovingly repainted!

This current phase of Lam Rim Wales involves a careful balance between renewal and preservation. Donated by a community member many many years ago and serving as a backdrop for multiple legendary photos, this particular Buddha was in much need of restoration. And now it can be seen shining in all its golden glory.

On this very important day we’d therefore like to rejoice in the countless contributions that community members have made in order for this place to exist as it does, including any donations that allow us to preserve its purpose.

We had a lovely time with Ajahn Dhammanando leading the past weekend. The sun was out (perfect for some interspersed walking meditations) and participants gently observed their every move under noble silence.

One thing we are particularly fortunate to have here at Lam Rim is ample opportunity for exchanges with Buddhist groups from other traditions. We learnt how to offer lunch the Thai Forest way with the inclusion of an anumodana chant and Ajahn Dhammanando expressed sincere curiosity in our Tibetan Gelug approaches - even sitting in on our regular Green Tara Puja at the end of the event!

We are very grateful to have such guests here and also appreciate all the kind and supportive words Ajahn said about the centre.

We have some wonderful news! ✨

The Nyung Nä that was recently postponed will still go ahead. Not only that, but it's now rescheduled to occur in alignment with Saka Dawa Düchen - one of the four main Holy days of the Tibetan calendar (Sunday 31st May). This is an incredibly auspicious time, where karmic results are said to be multiplied by one hundred million.

The new dates are Fri 29th May - Mon 1st June.

If you were unable to make the previous dates hopefully you'll be able to join us at the end of this month for yet another super-charged group practice weekend.

Sunday 10th May is our next gardening day! Can you join us in the beautiful tranquil grounds of Lam Rim and lend a hand to work on our land? There's lots to do in this season of growth and as some of our loyal gardening volunteers are unable to make it this week, we would be especially grateful if you can lend a hand. Applications of Mindfulness Retreat with Ajahn Dhammanando: Fri 22nd, Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May

There are still a small amount of residential spaces left if you’d like to come and join us for this unique opportunity later this month.

Informed by over 3 decades of life as a Bhikkhu (an ordained monk in the Theravada tradition) and now a senior teacher based at Amaravati monastery in Hertfordshire, Ajahn Dhammanando has generously offered to guide a meditation retreat right here at Lam Rim.

With insights into the Thai Forest tradition’s extensive knowledge of meditation, we’ll be given the chance to turn our focus from study to practice over several sessions. Reference will also be made to the Satipatthana Sutta (Majjhima Nikaya No. 10) covering the Four Applications of Mindfulness - body, feeling, mind and phenomena. However, there’s no knowing what this process can reveal.

We would like to send out our heartfelt gratitude for all that contributed to this incredible time. There was such a buzz of activity and exploration over the weekend with Venerable Robina Courtin and we were treated to an absolutely amazing stretch of teachings. It’s our great wish that both Ven Robina and all of those that attended return again!

Our teaching weekend with Venerable Robina Courtin is almost here. Next Friday we will be gathering for the "Courageous Compassion" retreat. Residential places sold out quickly but there are still daytime attendence tickets for any of you who live locally or are able to find accommodation nearby. An amazing hub of activity at our latest community gardening day - from work on and in the polytunnel, to pruning the apple trees, revitalising the raspberry beds, storing chopped logs, building new wood stores, and totally mucking in to give the veg beds much needed manure! All complemented by the wonderful volunteer support in the kitchen so that everyone enjoyed much needed refreshments and a delicious wholesome community lunch!
It's incredibly heartening to see the Lam Rim grounds come alive again, not only with its own natural new spring growth, but most importantly, with the life and vitality that all our wonderful volunteers bring each gardening day. A huge thank you to all our community!
