A reminder that this Shabbat is our wonderful, shorter, Intergenerational service at The Liberal Synagogue Elstree at 11am for anyone and any age...no children required, though if you have any to bring, they are very welcome!!

We would like to invite your family to join us at our Intergenerational Shabbat Service at The Liberal Synagogue Elstree at 11am this Shabbat, 25th April. Please RSVP [email protected], to give us an idea of who will join us. The service is intergenerational, so is open to everyone - children, parents, grandparents and extended families. If you don't have children, please also join us (you do not need to borrow a child to come along!)

A great morning of Purim Fun was had by the children of Radlett Reform Synagogue Cheder, The Liberal Synagogue Elstree Hub and families from the communities. Everyone had the chance to:
• bring along donations for the Foodbank (manatot la'evyonim)
• make greggars (from old CDs/DVDs)
• make & eat hamantaschen
• make misloach manot (in the shape of hamantaschen)
• listen to our children's megillah
• watch our Hadracha class perform their Purim Spiel
• listen to stories from PJ Library in the UK and think about how the Purim story can reflect inequalities and how we can help the needy

Wishing you all Purim Sameach! 🥳🎭🪇🥁🎊
Take a look out for our Pesach Event: https://www.radlettreform.org.uk/event/pre-pesach-fun--chocolate-seder.html

Purim Fact Number 10: Did you know that walled cities (like Jerusalem) celebrate Purim one day later
(the 15th of Adar) because the Jews there needed two days to defend themselves. This is called Shushan Purim. We are celebrating Purim on Sunday morning with fun for all - crafts, stories, baking, tzedakah, mishloach manot, the megillah and a spiel! Purim Fact Number 9: Did you know that greggers/groggers are used when the villain Haman’s name is read from the Megillah (Book of Esther), it is tradition to drown it out using rattles, known as graggers, or by stomping feet. We will be making greggers at our Purim Fun session on 1st March - book your places here: https://www.radlettreform.org.uk/event/purim-fun-2026.html and come along and make some NOISE!!!

Purim Fact Number 8: The Megillah is the Hebrew name of the Book of Esther, the Purim story.
This is handwritten on parchment and read aloud during Purim. Some Year 6 students from the communities will be reading from our Children's Megillah on 1st March at our Purim Fun event. Book here: https://www.radlettreform.org.uk/event/purim-fun-2026.html

Purim Fact Number 6: Did you know that on Purim, people dress up to remember Queen Esther. In the story,
Esther had to keep who she really was a secret for a while, so wearing costumes reminds us of hiding and then revealing our true selves. We are looking forward to seeing everyone's costumes at our Purim Fun on 1st March. Book here: https://www.radlettreform.org.uk/event/purim-fun-2026.html
