St Tudwen's Church, Llandudwen

Grade 2* listed Landudwen Church is one of the most ancient churches in Wales. Mae Eglwys Landudwen restredig Gradd 2* yn un o eglwysi hynaf Cymru.

Founded in the 5th century, it was built over the grave of St Tudwen, a great aunt of St David, who, fleeing from persecution, settled in this stunning location to teach people about God and his love. Originally built in the form of the cross and rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries, the church is now T-shaped. The Church's ancient features include a font, a piece of local granite said to be a

thousand years old; and a "Stone of Testimony" said to be the location that local Druids used to settle village disputes, later used as a mounting block when people attended church on horseback. Originally close to a small village of thatched cottages, the Church is now surrounded by sweeping meadows. The church is always open (though the door can be a bit stiff!) and services are held regularly there, the details of which can be found on this page. Mae nodweddion hynafol yr Eglwys yn cynnwys bedyddfaen, darn o wenithfaen lleol y dywedir ei fod yn fil o flynyddoedd oed; a "Carreg Tystiolaeth" wedi dywedir mai dyma'r lleoliad yr oedd Derwyddon lleol yn ei ddefnyddio i ddatrys anghydfodau pentrefi, a ddefnyddiwyd yn ddiweddarach fel bloc mowntio pan fyddai pobl yn mynychu'r eglwys ar gefn ceffyl. Yn wreiddiol yn agos i bentref bychan o fythynnod to gwellt, mae'r Eglwys bellach wedi'i hamgylchynu gan ddolydd ysgubol. Mae’r eglwys bob amser ar agor (er gall y drws fod braidd yn anystwyth!) a chynhelir gwasanaethau yno’n gyson, a cheir manylion amdanynt ar y dudalen Facebook hon.
