Fr Paul was joined by 16 of St Mary's congregation and one dog, plus some walkers from the other two Pulborough Churches. They did 17,000 steps around Chichester. This was not as strenuous as it sounds: there was a drinks break and a lunch break, and the party stopped at Churches en route while Fr Paul gave a brief talk about them.

No doubt there were some tired legs this morning! We expect to have raised over £700 when all the sponsorship money is collected in. Thank you to all who took part in or supported the walk.

St Mary's is one of the Churches taking part in Sussex Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride. Unfortunately, we are not able to open the main part of the Church, as our volunteers are off doing their own riding and striding, but visiting walkers and riders are welcome to register in the porch, which will be open from 9am to 5pm.

During our Sunday morning worship the church family said a big thank you to Revd John & Revd Jacquie Peal for their ministry in the parish over the past 15 years, as they now step back from busy parish duties. Christine, our churchwarden, read out all the ministries that the Peals have been involved with - the choir, various church services, presiding Holy Communion, Café in the Church, Open the Book school assemblies, Church@4, Churchyard upkeep team, Finance Team, and St Luke's Prayer Ministry. Christine presented the Peals with a special handmade card by Jenny C and a gift from the church community at Storrington.

Saturday September 19th sees the launch of our "Strength in Stone, Spirit in Community" appeal.

The day starts off with a sponsored walk round the Parish boundaries, with a shorter alternative route for less ambitious walkers. In the evening, there will be a celebration with food, drink and a hog roast, and a "son et lumière" presentation by the actress Juliet Stevenson to finish things off. The 19th September will surely be a day to remember for the entire Pulborough community!

The event is being organised by the Friends of Pulborough Parish Church. More information, including how to book, is on their website under "Events".

All proceeds will go towards the restoration of our beautiful Parish Church building. Registrations and payments are made through zeffy, which is a non-profit organisation funded by donations.

As part of the Global Week of 24/7 Prayer, our monthly Prayer Group will be joined by members of Pulborough Brooks Baptist Church and Pulborough United Reformed Church. We will pray together with Christians around the world for the needs of our local community, for the nation and for the world. To accommodate the increased numbers, the meeting will be held in the Chancel of the Church instead of our usual venue. All are welcome.
