This article was written for the May issue of our parish magazine. Here it is for you again. As Rev Christine pointed out in her May letter to the parish, this year, Ascension Day, Pentecost and Trinity all fall within May. Columba of Iona Almighty God, who filled the heart of Columba with the joy of the Holy Spirit and with deep love for those in his care: may your pilgrim people follow him, strong in faith, sustained by hope, and one in the love that binds us to you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

Discover
Faith comes by discovery, not by effort. It is not a feeling we can manufacture. It comes to us rather as a gift, often unexpected – the simple assurance that God is God, and that if we can just be still and know that God is God, all will be well.

Dear Lord, there are times when I find it hard, when I look around at this world, and wonder what is going on? But I know, that if I knock, the door will open, if I listen, I shall find. And I shall know that you are there for me and for all mankind. Thank you, Lord, for this world and the next. Amen

Salt
Because salt was so useful in the ancient world, it came to acquire a variety of symbolic meanings. Jesus’ description of his followers as the salt of the earth carried much more weight than a descriptor of a bunch of basic, decent, folks. In the mouth of Jesus, it is an admonition: You are the pure, holy, and wise ones of the earth, giving flavour, wisdom, and truth to the world around.

The Bishop of Manchester is please to announce the appointment of the Reverend Helen Tyler, currently Assistant Curate in the Benefice of St Margaret's Prestwich, as incumbent of High Crompton, St Mary's and Thornham, St James in the Deanery of Oldham and Ashton.
Please pray for Helen as she prepares to take up the post, the parishes where she will serve and the benefice she will be leaving (including the Revd Sue Walker, Helen's training priest).

All us us here at St Margaret's Prestwich wish Helen all God's blessings for her future ministry. We're sorry to see her go!

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. Psalm 90:14
