One of the most fascinating parts of the St Walburge’s Archives Project has been discovering just how connected the church was to the wider Lancashire community.

Among the collection are letters from well-known local landmarks including Hoghton Tower and Hutton Hall, alongside correspondence from families, organisations and individuals connected to St Walburge’s over many decades.

These documents help us build a picture of the people and places that have shaped the history of the church and the local area.

🚨 URGENT APPEAL – ST WALBURGE’S PRESBYTERY & DISCERNMENT HOUSE 🚨

Dear friends,

We have had an unexpected and rather dramatic mishap at the Presbytery and Discernment House.

One of the ceilings in our three bathrooms has suddenly collapsed, leaving the room covered in plaster and debris. As if that were not enough, a second bathroom ceiling is now showing the same signs of failure and could come down at any moment.

After inspecting the damage, a local plasterer has kindly offered to replace the entire ceiling for £300, which is a very reasonable price. However, this expense comes at a time when every penny is already carefully accounted for.

We need your help!

Our immediate goal is to raise £300 to make the bathroom safe and usable again. If, through your generosity, we receive more than this amount, the additional funds will allow us to repaint and restore the bathroom properly after the repairs have been completed.

Every donation, large or small, will make a real difference and will help us keep the Presbytery and Discernment House in good condition for the priests, seminarians, and all who benefit from its work.

What is Sharing Our Stories all about?

Volunteer Coordinator Emily Castle explains the goals behind this community heritage project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and how volunteers have helped uncover and preserve the stories of St Walburge’s for future generations.

The exhibition opens on 8th July, showcasing the people, memories, and history that make this landmark so important to Preston.
