Friends of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Preston A socio-spiritual, volunteer-driven, not-for-profit Hindu organization dedicated to strengthening soc

Founded on the pillars of practical spirituality, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) strives to strengthen society by fostering spiritual values, developing personal skills, rendering humanitarian services, and celebrating cultural traditions. It was revealed by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830) in 1801 and formally established by Shastriji Maharaj (1865-1951) in 1907. Under the current leadership of

Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS engages in over 160 activities through its worldwide network of about 3850 centers, 1100 temples, 1000 sadhus, and 55,000 volunteers. Through these not-for-profit humanitarian activities, BAPS reaches out far and wide to address contemporary moral, social, cultural, and personal issues at the societal, familial, and individual levels. With five lifetime vows of no alcohol and addictions, no non-vegetarian food, no adultery, no stealing, and no impurity of conduct, about a million members of BAPS begin their day with meditation and devotions (nitya-puja), try to lead morally upright, spiritually oriented lives, and donate their time and money for serving others. They actively participate in devotional, sociocultural, educational, medical, environmental, rural, disaster relief and other activities of BAPS. These humanitarian services help the organization serve society by developing individuals and foster Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s motto:
“In the joy of others lies our own;
In the progress of others rests our own;
In the good of others abides our own.”

Today we celebrated Guru Purnima pratik utsav.

In the Hindu Scriptures, there are several instances where the glory of the Guru is explained:

_"Gurubrahma Guruvishnu Gurudevo Maheshwaraha; Guruhu sakshaat Parambrahma tasmai Shrigurave namaha”_
- _Skand Purana, Guru Gita._

In the Mundak Upanishad, the Guru is called "Shrotriya," one who knows the true meaning of the Scriptures.

The one who removes our darkness in the form of ignorance helps us overcome maya and guides us on the path to realizing Bhagwan (God).

Bringing Communities Together: Mystic India
Screening at the University of Central Lancashire

BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha was delighted to host a special screening of Mystic India at the Mitchell & Kenyon Lecture Theatre, University of Central Lancashire, welcoming a full-capacity audience for an unforgettable cultural and cinematic experience.

The evening brought together distinguished guests, including the Deputy Consul General of India in Manchester, Mr. Santosh Kumar, the Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nweeda Khan, Russ Millhouse from the University of Central Lancashire, civic and community leaders, and guests from across the region.

Mystic India takes audiences on a breathtaking journey across India, following the extraordinary pilgrimage of the young yogi Neelkanth Varni. Through stunning cinematography and powerful storytelling, the film celebrates India’s rich cultural heritage, spiritual wisdom, diverse traditions, and timeless values of compassion, service, and harmony.

The audience was captivated from beginning to end, with many left in awe of the beauty, depth, and message of the film.

"The film was a powerful reminder of the values that unite us all — compassion, faith, service and humanity." – Mel Close, CEO of Disability First

The success of the evening reflects the values that BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha continues to promote worldwide — preserving cultural heritage, encouraging understanding between communities, and inspiring individuals through spirituality, service, and positive action.

Today, we celebrated the 134th birth anniversary of His Holiness Yogiji Maharaj, the fourth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, with a special assembly of discourses and kirtan bhakti, themed around the blessed fortune of having attained the association of such an inspiring Guru.

A visionary, who, through his positive attitude and loving nature, was able to grow BAPS into the Sanstha it is today by spreading Satsang Activities outside of India. He went on to build mandirs in Africa and the UK. He was also inspirational in the creation of weekly children and youth activities that have now sprouted across the world. Most importantly, He gifted us with their Holinesses Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.
