July 15- Commemoration of St Julietta (Marth Yulitha) & St Kyriacus (Mar Kuriakose). സഹദാമാരായ മാർ കുര്യാക്കോസിന്റെയും അവന്റെ അമ്മയായ മർത് യൂലീത്തായുടെയും ദുക്റാനാ 🕊

The story of St Julietta and St Kyriacus’s martyrdom for the sake of Christ and His Church defies the general notion that women and children are weak creatures in terms of physical and mental strength. The name ‘Kyriacus’/Kuriakose means ‘Of the Lord’; here is a story of a brave young woman who not only brought up her son in the fear of the Lord, but she actually made him able so that at a young age he could dedicate himself to the Lord by his martyrdom.

The tradition goes that St Julietta lived in the city of Iconium in Asia Minor and she was from an illustrious family and was a Christian. Misery struck her early her in life when she was widowed early in her married life. St Julietta gave a remarkable Christian upbringing to her son- Kyriacus.

During the emperor Diocletian’s persecution of Christians, St Julietta departed the city with her three-year old son leaving behind everything. She hid out first at Seleucia, and then at Tarsus. There around the year AD305 she was recognized, arrested and brought to trial before the governor, Alexander. Strengthened by the Lord, she fearlessly answered the judge’s questions, and firmly confessed her faith in Christ.

The governor gave orders to beat the saint with rods and tortured her. However, the tortures couldn’t deter St Julietta. The little boy Kyriacus cried, seeing his mother being tortured, and wanted to go to her. The governor Alexander tried to sit him on his lap, but the boy broke free and shouted, “Let me go to my mother, I am a Christian.” The governor threw the boy down from the high tribunal and the boy struck his head on the sharp edges and died. Seeing the marvellous faith of the little St. Kyriacus, over hundreds of prisoners accepted the Christian faith.

St Julietta, seeing her dead son, didn’t cry but gave thanks to God that He had permitted her child to be perfected before her, and that he had received the crown of martyrdom. She desired to go with the child. After many cruel tortures St Julitta was beheaded with a sword.

May their intercession of St Julietta and St Kuriakose be a refuge for us!

The Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Great Britain rejoices in the Priestly Ordination of Fr Emmanuel (Tenny) Nangachiveetil, who was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood by Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal on Friday, 10 July 2026, at St Chad's Cathedral, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Following the Ordination Rite, Fr Tenny presided over his First Holy Qurbana in the presence of Archbishop Bernard Longley, Mar Joseph Srampickal, Bishop Timothy Menezes, Bishop Richard Walker, Bishop David Evans, and Kuriakose Mor Osthathios, together with many priests from the Eparchy and beyond. The participation of religious, deacons, seminarians, family members, and a large gathering of the faithful made this a truly prayerful and grace-filled celebration.

Fr Emmanuel (Tenny) belongs to Our Lady Queen of Peace Syro-Malabar Parish, Liverpool (Preston Region) of our Eparchy. May Christ, the Eternal High Priest and Good Shepherd, guide, strengthen, and sustain Fr Emmanuel throughout his priestly ministry.

The Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Great Britain joyfully announces the Priestly Ordination of Deacon Emmanuel (Tenny) Nangachiveetil.

Deacon Emmanuel (Tenny) will be ordained to the Sacred Priesthood by Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal on Friday, 10 July 2026, at St Chad's Cathedral, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, in the presence of Archbishop Bernard Longley, Bishop Timothy Menezes, Bishop Richard Walker, Bishop David Evans, and Kuriakose Mor Osthathios.

Deacon Tenny belongs to Our Lady Queen of Peace Syro-Malabar Parish, Liverpool (Preston Region).

May the Good Shepherd guide, strengthen, and sustain him throughout his priestly ministry, and may his life be a joyful witness to Christ and His Gospel.
