This afternoon, we gathered for a truly moving session of Messy Church as we began our Journey through Lent. It was a powerful time of reflection, focusing on how Jesus walked the ultimate path to the cross to pay the price for our sins. We shared the incredible truth that through His sacrifice, our sins are washed away once and for all, offering us a clean slate and a new beginning.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and connection as we welcomed several young people, their parents, and a few new faces to our community. Messy Church is all about breaking down barriers and sharing the message of Christ in a way that is "user-friendly," relaxed, and accessible to everyone. By "sharing the gossip" of the Gospel, we are simply reaching out to others and passing on the life-changing news of Jesus’ love and grace in a welcoming environment.

At the end of our session, we shared a bittersweet moment as we said farewell to Louise, one of the founding members of Messy Church. As she prepares to leave us for Cheltenham, we expressed our deep gratitude for her contribution and wished her every blessing on her new journey. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy within our community remains.

Yesterday, the sunshine brought a welcome change after the freezing days, making it a lovely time to visit the fast-growing Let’s Play group. It was heartwarming to see parents and grandparents working together to prepare and serve breakfast, creating a strong sense of family and collaboration rather than relying on just one person.

With 30 children and their families attending — even some coming from Abbots Langley to Shenley — there was a wonderful community spirit. A gentle Christian presence was felt through the care, kindness, and support everyone showed to one another.

Today, on my Sunday off, I chose to do something that refreshed my spirit deeply — I worshipped at another church within our circuit.

What a blessing it was to gather with the congregation at Oxlease Methodist Church. From the moment I arrived, there was a sense of warmth, expectancy, and genuine joy in being together.

The message, beautifully delivered by our colleague Rosemary Mutopo, was both powerful and thought-provoking. Drawing from Epistle to the Romans 5:12–19 and Gospel of Matthew 4:1–11, she reflected on Jesus’ wilderness experience and connected it so meaningfully to our own wilderness seasons. We were reminded that just as Christ faced testing, hunger, and temptation, we too journey through challenging landscapes in life — yet God is present, shaping, strengthening, and sustaining us.

It was especially encouraging to see how this growing church is pressing forward in faith. People were engaged, turning pages to explore cross-references, eager to dig deeper into the Word. What a joy to see so many young people in the congregation, listening attentively and participating wholeheartedly. That sight alone filled me with hope.

There is something beautiful about worshipping outside your usual setting — it allows you to see God at work in fresh ways. I am so glad I used my Sunday off to share in fellowship, worship, and the Word with this wonderful church family.

Praise the Lord for what He is doing at Oxlease Methodist Church!

This morning, as we began our first online Lent study, “Who Is the Christ?” by Anne Culver, this message spoke clearly to us. The theme of the builder was beautifully led by our Deacon Nigel Perrott, and it was encouraging to see people joining us from locally as well as from South Africa and New Zealand.

Lent invites us to dig deep in our faith. Christ is our sure foundation. When our lives are rooted in Him and we live out His Word, we can stand firm through every storm. May this season help us build wisely and grow deeper in Him.

Next Saturday 28th February Lent Study on ‘the Humble King’ will be led by Dr George Woods.
