Diocese of Portsmouth It's a geographical area of the C of E led by the Bishop of Portsmouth. Our cathedral is in Old Portsmouth and is also a parish church.

The Church of England's Diocese of Portsmouth covers 139 parishes in south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, from Bramshott in the north to Ventnor in the south, from Botley in the west to Emsworth in the east. A small team of diocesan officers helps administer finance, property, social justice campaigns and training courses, as well as offering advice to parishes and church schools on a range of issues.

Bishop Jonathan has installed four new Honorary Canons and one new Lay Canon during Evensong in our cathedral - Canon Chris Bradish, Canon Jonathan Jeffery, Canon Penny Thatcher and Canon Clare Welham, alongside Lay Canon David Price.

After the service, he also presented cheques to representatives of three charities who we've been raising funds for as part of the Bishop's Lent Appeal. Those charities were: mission agency USPG, development agency Tearfund, and Vista, based at Harbour Church in Portsmouth. Details: www.portsmouth.anglican.org/lentappeal
